Thanks - any information is appreciated, as I am planning a cross-border foray in a Canadian vehicle, into the USA as a USA citizen and resident.

As such, @89GASHOG if I can ask a clarifying question: Was the Customs officer's representation for a US citizen (residing here) entering the USA driving a Canadian, Mexican, etc. - registered vehicle?

Yes, that's correct. I was surprised he offered this information, as I did not ask him this question directly. This was an agent at the Washington State border, discussing with me the options for bringing over a Canadian spec BJ70.

Thank you very much. That's pretty a pretty amazing disclosure. I have a very specific reason for this question and this helps me get comfortable. That said, I think I will impose upon a Northern friend to do pilot duty.

a Canadian spec BJ70, which haven't been sold in Canada since the mid 80s is much different from importing a newer JDM Cruiser from Canada.
