I sprung over my HJ61

Well in my quest to fit some 38s I broke down and got the 2" bodylift on this weekend...I also added an add-a-leaf all around.

You will have to lower the rad, extend the parking brake and tweak the shifter linkage. The t-case shift is short but works...same with the PTO shifter.

The lines actually looked good with the ARB up front and along the sides. Straight on from the back looks bad but I should be able to fix that with a custom plate on the rear bumper.

The ARB has been sold and a new custom bumber is in the works.

The spacers, new rims, 11.00R16 and new 4 runner brakes are all awaiting install...oh, and with all the messiig around up front I am finally going to get an intercooler on the truck....

I "think" I am happy with it. :D

I'm glad this thread got bumped up, I had missed it before since I joined recently. Nice looking rig. Good job on all that work.

The dude, do you do a lot of off-camber wheeling? How do the narrow tires and tall lift feel? Just curious....

Nice looking truck, BTW, I am seriously jealous of the Canadians' ability to import these fine Japanese Cruisers! :)

There is very little off camber wheeling here and the big lift and that tire/wheel combo sux. That is why I wanted to try the body lift and lose my Belton suspension lift to try and get my COG lower. But it is good for the mud and skeg that we have.

To help solve that issue I have bought spacers to use IFS hubs off of a 4 runner and I have a better offset rim and wider tires...I may go with a bolt on spacer as well, but I am going to wait and see how it wheels first...

thanks for all the compliments :bounce:

Here are some of the "before" pics

this is stock and how I recieved him
Belton with 35x12.5R15 on 3" BS rims
Belton lift with 255/85R16 on split rims

I have gone up a total of 9" in the back and 8" in the front (bumper hieghts) from stock. The bottom of my frame rails are at 25" with the 9.00R16. So I am expecting another 1" with the switch to 11.00R16s Add to this another 2" for the body lift to vlear the tires.

I hope it works out..If not I can always change it!!

Hey Dude, I plan on doing a SOA to my HJ and was wondering why the overload spring is still being used on yours? BJ 60 springs wont work with an add a leaf?

Ive cut and turned b4 so I have no problems doing that. Need a bit more help with the springs b4 I dive in.

Thanks

Paul

Thanks lowtide,

I haven't got my new issue of the trails yet so I haven''t seen the spread.

The River Shiver was a great experience with a lot of cool people and a lot of cool trucks.

Any info for spring set ups? What about adding 2 extra leafs to BJ springs or removing the overload from the HJ springs? Are the spring rates that much different?

Oh sorry, I missed that. I ended up removing my overload springs from the front. I have noticed that the HJs are heavier then the BJ up front. My BJ springs sagged a lot under the weight of the HJ.

I added an add -a- leaf all the way around. to clear my 38s. I don't think it would be needed with 35s or smaller.
