I love my 2016 8 speed tranny with TSB 0209-17

Anyone familiar with both this TSB and the OTT ECU/TCU tune?

My 2016 has the symptoms detailed here to be remedied by the TSB, however calling my local dealer they gave a lot of runaround about diagnosing in advance and keeping the truck for a road test versus simply charging an hour's labor and doing it. If an OTT tune can solve the same shifting issues as well as give some small performance benefits at an incrementally higher cost, I may just go that route.
Updating that I just got back from my OTT tune appointment on my 2016 and am very happy with it. My local tuner was able to individually add the trans TSB first, followed by the tune. It made a dramatic improvement in initial throttle/off the line feel. I went with a "Medium" calibration in normal mode and "Spicy" in ECT PWR mode. Neither feel overly jumpy to me, but I drive with light roll-on throttle by habit.

In addition to off-the-line, the transmission is also no longer reluctant to give you the right gear in accel/coast situations at all speeds. It doesn't necessarily feel like more engine power, rather the truck is using its displacement much more effectively.

My local tuner per OTT was $600 all-in which I feel is pretty steep, but I think it was worth it, is much more satisfying to drive.

I've been needing to do the transmission TSB on my 2016.. Now I'm wondering if the OTT is the better route.

I've got a guy close that is authorized and does these fairly often. I need to read up on it a bit more

For what it's worth, my tuner had the TSB file from Toyota through some dealer channel that not every OTT installer might have. According to him, the OTT program can change shift points based on ECU parameters like speed, throttle input, and torque converter lock, but does not change the same trans computer logic and solenoid pressure that the Toyota TSB does.

So I'd check if your local tuner can do the Toyota TSB (by specific number), if not you'd need to get it done at Toyota beforehand to solve the specific cold 1-2 shift issue(s) that it addresses.

Just so happens our local OTT guy is having a tune day this weekend…

Thanks @open country I'll look into that!

@dudemancool1904 you thinking about it? If you get it done we need updates.

Ive been reading up on it, man the 4R and Taco dudes are all about it..

My biggest thing is passing ca smog. I just spoke to the tuner and he said they are currently pending carb approval for the 3ur tube which is great. I’ll stop by and see if they can fit me in.
