Well after countless thought, going over all of the suggestions (which were awesome!) and tossing and turning at night while thinking about this, I'm going to try and push for mechanical engineering at BCIT, a 2 year course to get my diploma. That should open enough doors and give me a chance at doing something I'm going to enjoy.
NavCanada has a lot of great options, if I could get in, and their 5 weeks off and 20 personal days, combined with their high wage is great, but I don't know if I have the personality for it.
Going into mechanical design is probably the best alternative, I get to use all my practical knowledge and combine it with all of my creative ideas. If I can land the right job I would even have a shot at doing the hands on fabrication.
Now if WCB doesn't go along with the suggestion, then I'm back tot he drawing board and trying to come up with plan B.

Recycling in Burnaby is a joke they want you to wrap up all your crushed boxes in a bow, instead of packing them into one uncollapsed box. If you don't they will leave it behind it doesn't make sense at all, it all goes into the same compactor? It's a waste of twine.

Hey the NDP is looking good! You might as well get on the gov't. / public sector gravy train now in preparation for the economic miracle that will occur the day after they get in. I too am eagerly awaiting the giant bag of cash that mr. Dix has arranged to fall from the sky! I have my welfare app already to post.

I've an easier time with paying social welfare than the current corporate welfare practiced across Canada. It is nearly double the cost of social welfare programs across Canada. While there are many abuses of social welfare programs, they pale in comparison to the abuse of tax payers money of corporate welfare programs. I'd gladly vote for Dix if he would get rid of some of these handout of my tax money to the rich and often foreign owned corporations. Funny that only the right-wing and left wing think tanks are the only ones to talk about it. The media generally is tight lipped about it. Have a search on Google and you'll see what I mean.

I second the excitement for an NDP boom because the last time they were in power...oh wait a minute. That was the last time we had trouble staying busy in the new home and renovation sector.
Friend of mine until recently was doing concrete work for most of his working life (40 years old). He used to design and build skateboard parks then got into placing concrete. He got on with the muni in Delta last month and his comment on the first day was "I think a piece of me died today". He is learning to slow down so he won't upset other workers. My uncle worked for the muni for 30+ years and had the same problem when he started. It seems that government job = waste tax $.
How about municipal government spending up 80%+ in 10 years (most likely labour costs) and provincial spending up only 10% in that same time. Seems the Liberals maybe aren't so bad (did I say that out loud? Sorry John)

Many folks complain and bitch about the Liberal party tactics, favouritism to their buddies and what not. It's politics people, every party does it. Welcome to the real world.
For the 99% of us not on the receiving end of these perks, it's better for us to be working. And more of us are working under a heavily capitalist agenda, rather than a socialist agenda.
It's been proven in both of the last terms the NDP had power.
Anyone thinking that it's time to screw the Liberals and vote the NDP in to spite them or perhaps in some completely naive dream that somehow their life is going to be better under the NDP, is delusional.

Work hard, show up on time, do the extras, and enjoy your work. Be the best garbage collector the city has ever seen, whatever. Do that, and our society will be a better place to live, because you'll feel better about what you do.

I prefer a more middle of the road approach. It has worked well in other countries. Perhaps the NDP is ready for that now. Seems that the majority of people in BC think the same. Still, there are many more months until the next election.
