You won't need assist unless you're running at least 35s and a front locker.

That's the plan, but it won't be happening for a while :frown:

True. $500 is not bad for a complete conversion.

Now are we limited to a 1.5 inch ram, or could we run bigger? In theory, if you could fit a bigger ram, then you would have more pushing power for not that much more money. Just a thought.

You are not limited to a 1.5" ram, but like was said before, it'll be slower to react. I was really close to running a 1.75" ram, but since my rig is a DD I opted for the 1.5" ram. I don't think you really need much bigger. There are tons of pickup/4runner guys running 42s on 1.5" rams with no problems.

Wow. If you can run 42" tires with a 1.5 easily, then there is no need to go bigger.

One more question. Do you need to have hy-steer to have a Hydro-Assist system?

Thanks

Well, honestly, it is nice to have steering whenever you need it. so a larger ram does work better.. But there is typically no need to go larger than 1.5 on a street driven rig.

Also, the stock pump sucks.. So a better pump will help your assist greatly..

And you do NOT need to have Hy steer to have hydro assist. It is just easier to fit it in your system if you do..

Mace is right bigger isn't better in this case. One guy in our club had an exciting trip this year owing to a huge ram. Eventually he disconnested it until we got on the trail, even there it was noticable how much lag there was between him turning the steering wheel and the tires moving. He eventually re-did it all with PSC components.
