I ordered up the Hy-steer from Marlin for my FJ-60 but they said I need to get a Saginaw steering box to replace my stock box. Any ideas out there on this. What years to I scavenge the yards for?

Any help would be great thanks!!

:whoops:

The hysteer I bought from Marlin had a pitman arm for a 60 that accepted fj80 joints so I doubt it's the steering box but probably is the steering pump. Saginaw pumps will put out more than a 60 pump so maybe they're just trying to tell you to upgrade your steering pump for more psi to turn bigger meats.

Or the guy on the phone thought you had a 40...

I'm with Mace he's thinking 40

Tell them it is for a FJ60 4 door wagon, then tell them again.

Go to this thread Pirate FJ60 tie rod lengths and double check the custom lengths of the tie rod and drag links.

Then, talk to someone at Marlin that handles the custom hi-steer orders and tell him you have an FJ60...Wagon...not a 40...not a mini...

I recieved a set of mini rods w/ the original order, then they sent the custom ones. All good, and I love the set up.

Edit - You do not need to change the box, pump, or anything else. Get the pitman arm though, it will bolt right up to your 60 sector shaft. Arms, 80 rod ends, and custom links complete the set up...

you guys rock

thanks for the help - Marlin is saying that there pitman is for mini only and they don't have an arm for it. WTF John at marlin is saying that he thinks most people put a saginaw steering box from a fullsize chevy on and I need to get one of those. WTF AGAIN!

So I can use the factory box and use the factory pitman????

It should be here today!! :bounce:

Any sugestions on a good lupplier that knows there stuff on the 60s in the rock crawling side vs. the resto side. Checking all the venders out there from ih8mud and it seems more on the side of 2.5in lift and spring under resto world - Lets get dirty, go big and beat the crap out of it till it breaks, and then fix it and do it again!!!!
Isn't that what's this is all about. :bang:

Any help to the rookie would help.

I come from the bronco and K5 blazer side and have a family now so the wagon world is really apeezing to me. This whole toyota thing is huge here, I used to be president of the THE PACK 4x club in Los Osos, CA and I had the only full size and all else were Cherokees or toys. They loved squeezing through trees and leaving me behind.

Wheel ON!

I went to school at Cal Poly SLO. Back in Valencia now. Where do you offroad in Los Osos? What are the best rails in the area?
Not tech but I had to ask.

The pitman arm will bolt right onto a FJ60 box. Everything in the kit will work flawlessly. Just make sure you get the right rod lengths (Drag Link - ~36 1/2"
Tie Rod - ~44" This is the dimension of the tube itself, not including the TRE's).

The rods are custom, so you will need to talk to the right guy.

On a seperate note...I have started a website dedicated 60 Series Land Cruisers.

www.kavikoffroad.com/

It will focus on heavy modifications (Spring overs, v-8 swaps, deep expedition mods, custom fab, body mods, etc). It will take a while to get everything added, but I invite anyone to email us with submissions or suggestions.

There is also a 500+ pic gallery fo 60's. I plan to create a bio for each rig, so I'm putting it out there for the respective owners to submit info about their set up...
