I probably missed this when I searched (I swear I did!!) but is there a common problem with my 1st gen's HVAC that I can look for?

I can feel tension on the cable but when I switch modes nothing changes and there is very little flow coming out of any vent. I'm hoping that there isn't something broke in the air box itself. :frown:

The compressor? I don't think so. Will the ECM even let it run when it's 7* out?

It puts out heat. If I just let it run it'll get pretty toasty in there but it just don't blow out of any of the vents. I'm hoping I don't have to yank the box apart and look for a plugged evap core.........

Ya Jerod, I think what he's saying is that no air is moving thru the ductwork and out the vents, no matter what position he puts the lever.

It could very well be that there is an obstruction at the AC evaporator coil, in the air box. Pull out the blower motor, then if you contort your hand just the right way you can feel the face of the coil, see if there are leaves or any other crap in there. When I bought my old '84 back in '99, no air would move thru the system at all. I pulled the motor out, and found the entire face of the evap coil totally matted with dog hair, it was pretty nasty. Apparently the PO had a couple of large white huskys that he used to take plowing with him. Ugh, it was a mess cleaning up that interior.

I assume you checked that the blower motor is spinning on all speeds?

It works on everything but the lowest setting. I'm sure that's gonna mean a new resistor pack.

I'll pull the blower out tomorrow and try and contort my chubby nubs up in there to check the evap core. I was hoping there was some super, double top secret lever I might need to reconnect somewhere. :frown: LOL.

Gotcha! I thought you said there was no COLD air coming out.... Doh! I should learn how to read someday.....

Lol. I could of been a little more descriptive. I'm trying to force the cold air out. It was -5* here last night. It's December and I'm already ready for summer. :)

is it blowing out of any of the vents at all

I don't feel anything from any of the vents. Heat's good if I can just get something out of the vents.

trucks use a blend door that is controlled by the red/blue lever.
that cable runs down to the passenger lower side of the HVAC unit
if the cable breaks it will be stuck in any position. the lever will still feel like it has tension on it cause it still controls the heater valve.

so check the lever on the passenger side. its L shaped and white. check the valve on the hose up near the firewall, under the hood. make sure that is operating

Well I dug into it yesterday. Can't see anything outside of the box that would cause this. Couldn't really see anything on the evap core either. Guess I'll be pulling the box this summer if I can wait that long.
