Howell TPI Expert in Northern IL (1 Viewer)

Hi!
I have a 1986 FJ60 with a Howell TPI installed that never seems to run quite right and trips the check engine light. I'm sad to say i'm not a wrencher, so I'm looking for anyone who knows of a shop that might have experience with this in the Northern Chicago burbs. Willing to travel a bit to get to the right guy.

No shop comes to mind. I’m in Elgin, what about you? I have no familiarity with the Howell TPI. I’d love to see some pictures if possible. Are you able to get codes read on it so you have some sort of direction to look into? Describe “never seems to run quite right.” Cold starts? Acceleration? Look forward to hearing back.

I'm no expert by any means. But I Think that unit is based off the old GM TBI. shouldn't matter what vehicle its on.
I would think any old schoolish mechanic could probably figure out what you're issue(s) might be. There's probably
a bunch of videos on YouTube. Post up what you find out.

I had this setup about 25 years ago and it worked okay. Mine always had a slight surge under load and a 1-200 rpm shift at idle. What are your codes? Howell has amazing customer support. Have you called them?
