Finally got around to a project I’ve been researching for a while, dug into the dreaded infotainment system. I followed along with the guys swapping out stock non-US hvac controls, but the availability of components, difficulty, and steep cost just made that seem unlikely. Then one night I stumbled across this thread:

I ended up pulling the trigger on the Phoenix Automotive PX6 12.1” radio, here’s my install (not for the faint of heart):

Here are my learnings from digging through a lot of threads from multiple folks:
  • On my 2006 the AC controls worked out of the box, I had no sound from my speakers even though the radio tuner seemed to be working and the antenna responded when it was opened. It turned out the factory amp was not getting a power on signal, I was able to do a variation of a fix from @mistered123 posted here. I only connected the power signal from the aftermarket connection harness into the stock connecter with a T-Tap (grey wire from harness to the pink wire, but mine did not have in plug so tapped stock wire he identifies in second post), and did not tie into speaker RCAs.
  • Once my amp was working I had no sound from my DS front speaker, this has something to do with the stock navigation using this speaker for it's voice commands. Once you bypass this system you need to bridge these two speaker wires, mine were different colors but the same pins in that plug.
After that everything is working but the stock reverse camera, it uses 6V and this radio supplies 12V for an HD camera. I've bought a 6V to 12V converter that a lot of Subaru WRX guys use to work around on that vehicle, I'll buy a HD camera if I can't make it work. Will update here when I get around to messing with that.

Otherwise I'm finally enjoying a modern radio in our beloved old beast

I had been considering going down and buying a new 200 since it’s the last year they are bringing Cruisers here :frown: But the market went crazy price wise and the inventory dried up, so I’m giving the hundy some love. Had a local specialist do the timing belt kit, water pump, cam seals and new plugs. Now I’m fixing all the little nagging issues with a 15 year old Cruiser;)

Continuing my 100k refresh, I had done a 1.5” OME lift about 60k ago and just kept the stock torsion bars. With the bumper and winch my front had sagged over time. Installed some Ironman torsion bars and foam cell shocks to replace the tired Fox 2.0:
