How to protect leather on steering wheel?

My steering wheel is start to show sign of wear and tear on the upper part.

It's only 7 years old and I don't want to put sheep skin protection over it.

Any suggestion?

Try steering from the bottom of the steering wheel

Well the cleaner and conditioner will help. I only have leather on two spots on my wheel as i have the LX wood steering wheel package.

I must say, having wood definately saves me from dealing with these types of problems.

Have you contacted a leather upholstery shop to get a qoute on the wheel being rewraped? Or possibly, checked ebay for a wheel? The older 100s have the same wheel as a 80 i think so you probably can find a replacement for cheap.

You need to get some totally awesome driving gloves. Thin leather, perforated, with holes above the knuckles and velcro closures.

Not only will the leather wheel stay looking like new, you will be the pimp!

maybe buy a new wheel off ebay..

If it's already wearing, not much you can do to save it. Maybe some leather cleaner and conditioner to slow down the process.

I did mentioned to my wife that my wedding ring is causing wear and tear on the wheel.

She asked if my wheel is really that "important"? And she said would be "hard" for me to take my wedding ring off to protect my wheel.

I almost say "No, it is not that hard to take my r....." :whoops:

Indeed, this web site do provided very details and it only cost $50 for two tones, same as original.

I didn't expected Doug to get one for himself because he always wear yellow leather gloves except during cooking, didn't he?

I have seen some really nice leather refinish jobs but have not tried to do it myself. It involves sanding, patching and dying the leather. Or you can find a leather repair shop in your area. Ask a used car dealers for leads.

303 aerospace protectant. It blocks the UV that shortens the life of the dash, etc.

I have the same ware on the steering wheel where I place my hands. I think the PH acids in your skin help deteriorate the finish on the leather???
Same thing happened on window sill where I place my elbow while driving.
Keep in mind I have owned my LC for eight years with the same driving habits.
