How to make the spare tire chain piece fit through the center of a smaller rim? (1 Viewer)

I’m at discount tire and they are saying this thing won’t fit through the middle of my new Icon Vector 5. Any suggestions?

Use a dremel or cutting disk on an angle grinder to slice the tube portion close to the plate, so that it is in two pieces along the chain. Careful not to cut the chain. Then the tube will be short enough to fit through the center.
This is a common mod for those of us with rock warriors so you might find some picture results if you search

they ended up taking off the chain and pulling it through the other end. Seemed pretty easy to do also, but probably more hassle on the side of the road with a flat. I’ll try a more permanent solution soon.
