How long should the glow plugs be energized?

The resistor is still in place. I just bypassed the switching part of the timer to make it work.

Wow some of you guys sound like you are heating those glow plugs for a long time. I spose though you canadians may have to. I hope you have decent batteries!

On my 42 3B I have a little coil I can see. When it glows red hot I start the vehicle. I have the 10.5volt glow plugs, so they are known as the fast start glow plugs and it only takes about 5secs then I start it. It can run a little rough for about a minute or so in winter but its all good after that.

is your system a 24V or 12V on the 42?
