**Assuming this deal doesn't work out, I'm just going to use this one thread for advice on picking up my 4runner. I don't wanna clog things up**

Thinking about picking up an 88 4runner, 4x4, 5sp, 3.0 (I know.).

There's a little bit of blow-by, but it's very minimal, and looks like a single bad ring.

The body is immaculate, not a bit of surface rust (except some on the frame, but no cancer).

Guy wants 1300. I think it's a pretty fair deal, he's in the city where my dad lives, so I'm having him check it out. Thoughts?

Edit: I'm probably going to be swapping in the mark 3 Supra engine... though it's going to hurt my heart to cannibalize a supra. So basically, I was looking at the shape of everything else on the truck.

Yeah if its as clean as you say it is, would make a sweet plat form for a 7mge. maybee talk him down to 1000.

I'm gonna do the whole "bring 1300 with me, give 300 to my dad, offer him the roll of fifties" thing. I'm hoping he'll take the grand, that would be super sexy.

I'm assuming the 7mge bolts straight up, but do we avoid the 7mgte because of torque loss, or is there another reason?

Aren't you the guy that is 6'-7"? I would recommend you spend some time behind the wheel, these cabs are pretty cramped, nowhere as roomy as a 2nd gen ('90-95).

Yeah, I'm the giant. I was thinking that I could get a deeper reclining bucket. Either that or finally do what my gramma used to threaten me with, and chop myself off at the knees.

So is there just no way I'm gonna fit in this thing? If it's an obvious "oh hellll no," then I'll move on. My dad is 6'5", and if he fits, I might. I swear, I'm never going to find the right truck. Le sigh.

The only advantage of the non turbo over turbo is reliability (more parts = more potential failures) and price. For me i figure when im wheelin i will never hit the turbo anyways, but others find situations were they use it, its only like 20 extra pony's really anyway.

It pretty much bolts up, you need 5mge motor mount brackets and the 7mge bell housing, electric radiator fan, v6 radiator ect. however thats only if you have a 4cyl w series trans and non turbo bell hosing. if you have a v6 trans youll need a bell hosing adapter for the r series trans.

You may fit, you may not. Get about an hour's drive time, and then decide.

Racing buckets recline deeper, but I honestly must say, racing buckets suck.

You can build a bracket to move the seat back, and you'll be fine, cause you can move it as far as you want... We aren't talking about a single cap pickup...

$1300 for a running clean 1st Gen 4Runner sounds pretty good to me...
