How do these knuckles look??

Bought the truck about 6 months ago. Was checking the brake pad wear and snapped some pictures of the knuckles. This is my first car with this setup. Is this normal or does it seem like time for a rebuild? Last knuckle rebuild was 20k ago (8 years ago).

First two are driver, second two are passenger

They look like healthy, non-catastrophically leaking knuckles. Sure they could use a rebuild but if the bearings have good preload, the knuckle studs are torqued, the birfs aren't clicking and there is grease in the knuckles, you are likely ok for awhile.

Some of us have OCD and would never hate our trucks enough to drive with that mess LOL

Top up your front diff gear oil also

They look empty, dry, that is bad, greasy balls are good, get some moly grease in there. They should be 1/2 to 3/4 full.

Thanks for the replies. Based off this thread and my other one, I plan on cleaning up both assemblies, check the grease level and add moly along with changing the diff oil. Then see what a week of driving does with clean assemblies.

Planning on using Mobil 1 gear oil and sta lube cv joint grease. Any thoughts on these?

I just use regular, cheap gear oil, it will get moly and need to be changed.

Cost effective 80-90 wt gear oil, it eventually finds it's way in the knuckles, and you will have to change it .

That was my initial impression. They should have a shiny appearance.

I use cheap 85w gear oil in the diffs. Cheap and change more often. Using synthetic is a waste. And gives false hopes of it lasting longer. Change every 6 months (or sooner if contaminated).

Update...changed the diff oil (see picture below of old oil & magnetic plug)...also added about 6oz of cv grease in each. Will check everything again next weekend. Thanks everyone for the input.
