I am picking up my truck in vancouver when it clears customs, supposed to arrive oct 1.
Can I register it in BC if I am not a resident?
Or should I just get liability coverage until I get back to ontario and register it here. where do I get the inspection done? Can it be done anywhere or is it a federal inspection?

one more question- I plan on instaling an aluminum flat bed (utility tray) , with dot lights. can this be done before the inspection? then I don't have to look for dot lights. if it is done before the inspection will it pass, or will I have to put the box back on?

thanks
mika

get a transit permit and drive the truck home but that is a long way in a unit with an unknown history. i would contact Hansens and have them ship it to Ontario for you. cheaper and less worry in the long run.
the inspection is doen in the home province (you DO NOT want BC to have anything to do with your truck). you will need a Out Of Province inspection in Ontario (stay away from Canadian Tire)
most inspection shops will NOT even inspect a used cab and chassis. contact the shop that is doing the inspection and ask them what they will accept.

cheers and good luck

Wayne, I was just wondering if you could expand on not wanting BC to have anything to do with it, if you could....do you mean it's a waste of time, or that BC is hard to deal with, or something else?

i find BC hard to deal with, period. also it would be a waste of time to have it inspected in BC since you have to get the unit OOP in it's own province at time of registration...

You can't get a trip permit in ontario unless you register it within 7 days of purchase - which is impossible when you buy a JDM. Just get it shipped by hansens to your door.

You can put the flat bed on it and use DOT lights, dont forget lighted clearance lights and or side markers.

Regards,

sucks to live in Ontario, i can have the truck off the train and registered the same day (if all the ducks fall right in line)...
