How do I get to rust inside the chassis rails.

Hi all,

is there an easy way to get to surface rust within the chassis rails of a 45 series troppy?


I was told to put some rust converter in a spray bottle and go nuts through the holes but then I have to get paint in there?

Pressure wash inside first. You can also run a hose through it. The 1" holes on the outside of the rails will just fit a cheap garden hose with the hose barb removed. Feed the hose in there with the rear parked a few inches lower than the front and run the hose back-and-forth to get the crud out. Then let it dry for a couple days and get under there with rust converter. Finally, paint it as best you can inside the rails. Short of actually dipping the frame, that's the best I've found.

Power washer shoved in the frame at every hole and aimed especially at the lower portion of the inner frame, rinsed with a hose from the front as mentioned earlier, degreaser (ez-off is the best IMHO) sprayed throughout the inner frame then use a chimney brush with extensions connected to a 5/8" drill run from the rear frame area above the axles to clean the loose scale and any left over grease. Hose out as before. Then spray phosphoric acid rust converter liberally in every hole at every angle to soak everything. Hose out again. Let dry then spray rust bullet or stick a shredded rag on the end of the chimney extensions, dip in rust bullet and slop around inside the frame like a tar brush.

Ditto on the above two suggestions. Eastwood makes a rust encapsulation with a 16 inch hose that sprays 360 degrees for gettin in those hard to reach places. i sprayed it in the mid channel of the tub when I pulled the quarter panels off. I plan to use it on the frame real soon. Not cheap at 20 bucks a can. Worked great, just wish the hose was a wee bit longer.
