i have a sun roof in my 84 4 runner it is 16" x 31" how can i tell if it is stock or added by the previous owner/owners? it is leaking bad and i have replaced the seal it slowed the leaks down but i need to stop them. if it is stock they sell all kinds of parts for them, if not i will have to replace the whole thing.
My '83 truck had a stock sunroof in it and you could tell because it had a drain well built around it with drains running through the body. you could tell the body was designed for the glass. Most factory vehicles with a sunroof are like that, aftermarket models there is a gasket surrounding the sheet metal on the roof and the glass is not flush with the roof. Does the glass say toyota or TEI anywhere on it? You would think a factory toyota part would.
The factory sunroof sits down in a tub that is formed into the roof, there are drains at all 4 corners. The latch is at the rear center, the latch handle is the same color as the interior plastics, and the glass piece is easily popped out.
my sunroof leaks. It is installed with what looks like wood screws, it does not sit flush, it is raised, and the latch is in the center rear....BUT the glass says 1987 Toyota on it....so I dont know.
I just siliconed around the seam on the roof and Ive been good to go. But in the summer I put the soft top on and I loose rigidity in the body and those seals break loose, so every fall I have a silicone fest. One summer I took the doors off for a week....after that summer the sunroof and the windshield leaked alot. I just imagine im the captain of a fishing boat on the grand banks in November....they seem to have fun even when its leaking everywhere...
Actually I looked the sunroof on lunch and it doesnt say Toyota, But it does say 1987, since the truck is a 1988, I always assumed the sun roof COULD be factory, but im not sure.
