Mike-

Man, that came out looking GREAT! What a nice looking carrier... then again I may be a bit biased :D

I am going to add my hi-lift for sure, but I am leaning toward a camping trailer unit, as most of my adventures are Colorado high country scenic/fun trails. I think the cooler will live on the trailer for longer trips and for the day drives it will still get strapped down in the back.

Looks awesome man, very nice stuff, now get a coat of paint on that thing before you get more of the ih8rust on it.

looks good Mike et all! get your highlift on there! Maybe even a can or two?. It sucks carrying gas in the Cruiser on Rubicon. :D

cheers!
Dustin

Damn Rezarf, I musta missed all that progress while I was away. That thing is kick ass! I really like how you can see the lights below.

Sine80 yours is looking pretty tough too. Keep up the good work fellas.

Hawk, you back already? I thought you weren't due until winter? Glad to hear your okay and doing well.

Thanks for the input man. I am going to get the hilift on there soon, and from there who knows.

Nah man, I've been training. We're flying out next week. I'll be checking back for those hi lift update pics. ;)

Man, we are VERY proud of you, take care and let us know when you're back bro!

PS, I bet you'll be back before I can get it all worked out :D

Thanks,

Thanks to internet I'll be in touch throughout. Not getting rid of me that easily.

It'll take more than 7,000 miles and a measly war to keep me from talkin with my Ih8mud buds.

I know what you're talking about, mine's still not 100% complete but I did get that receiver added to the bottom of it. Still need to add some clevis mounts and add a basket. Keep pluggin away at it, yours will prolly be done before mine. ;)

Here's a pic of the receiver, it worked out well for pulling the trailer cross country.

With all the fab skills and tools you have on hand Hawk, that is the best you can do for a gas can holder :D

Sweet stuff, is that Moab?

thats for the compliments fellas. both designs were a big factor on mine. I didnt think it was going to be as sturdy as it is with a 37. the plan at the moment is for a cooler to the right, highlift, and I may make something on the back to carry a gas can--im not 100% sure yet so I appriciate the input. I am really happy with the way it came out and the mcmaster and IPOR stuff is really stout.

Looks good! Caught this thread a little late. My only comments would have been the same as SteveO's on the tire placement, and those latches are good...but what happens if you back into something with it? Its kind of exposed.

Mike, I can take some close up pics of how to make a simple yet effective gas can carrier. When your were down, you were unsure if you were going to add one so I didn't really think to explain it more. But if you decide to, they should onley take a few hours to do. Let me know. All you would need is some 1" square stock, some 1" angle, some all thread, a few bolts, and a butterfly bolt. (it might be something rezarf et al. might be interested in also)

will do, I saw your trailer which gave me some ideas too. Im just unsure what I want to end up with. the gas holders you made seamed really stout, you should post up some close ups. I think it might be a good idea to add to the center of the carrier like hawk driver.

I'll take some pics tomorrow night and psot them in the evening. X-men 3 got here from Netflix so I was a bit busy tonight

Here is the simple way to make jerry can mounts.
All you need is some angle iron, some 1” square
stock (old bed frames work great), some all thread,
3 nuts, and a wing nut.

This can work on the type of tire carriers on this thread,
just need to make a frame.
Also, a bottom frame does not need to be made.
The bottom angle iron can simply just go on the
outside edge of the carrier so that it catches the
lip (like a U on the back side of the carrier)
I will probably be making an additional one
on my carrier so that when I have the trailer,
I will have 15 gals of extra gas or a mixture of water.
sorry about not resizing

so now that you have had a bit of time with the carrier on Rezarf, have you come up with anything else you would change. When you are on the trail and the whole thing is strapped down, do you notice the tire bouncing at all or does it stay pretty stiff? I am getting ready to build one with a guy down here in Charlotte.

Check out post #115

Thanks man!

here is a few more of the IPOR hinge.

Which hinge did you go with? The zinc collars or the steel collars? Any idea what the advantages of one material over the other may be? I've tried to contact IPOR for a week and got no response yet but would like to order the hinge. Thanks. ....Steve

Steve-

I would imagine the zinc are for rust resistance, but I am unsure, I just got which ever ones came with the kit. Mine aren't rusting but I am in dry Colorado.

I would go for the zinc ones if I had a choice.

Give Lance a chance, he might be on vacation or something, those guys at IPOR are a class act.
