G'day Gents, First post so go gentle.

I'm attempting to put power steering into the ole HJ47, and i've got a fab bracket kit from Mckinnons... which includes;
  • 60 Steer Kit - Offset/Parallel Mounting Plate Kit with Template, Fishplate, crush sleeves and bolts/fixings
  • 40 Splined Column with Shaft (Note: This is an exchange item, read notes below)
  • 60 Steer Fabricated Shock Towers (Stock Height or Custom Height)
  • 60 Steer Custom Battery Bracket
Optional Extra:

  • Battery Tray (Universal) N70 sizing battery tray (Left or Right Configuration)
Now I'm not mechanicly minded and this is my first project 4wd.. but from what I can tell all I need to source is a power steering pump and box. From what I've seen there's steering boxes from pre 10/1984 and post 10/1984, is there much difference and should i check exactly when my 40 was made to make sure i get the right one or just shoot for either?

Good luck. I would have researched that answer before I bought any parts. But the guy I got my first car from often said "if you have a hammer and a oxyacetylene torch it has to fit". He was a machinist not a carpenter.

I'm about to upgrade my Oz delivered 1971 FJ40 to power steering also using a McKinnon's 60 series steer kit.
Mine's a little more involved as my early one piece steering column presumably differs from yours and I'm ditching it for a later/safer collapsible one - you don't state your year, so not certain.
I'm also repowering with a 1HZ/H55F and fitting front disc brakes, so my engine's PS pump will differ.
My collection of parts is based on the following recipe.
Note that there are 2 different 60 series PS boxes - one with offset and one with parallel mounting points, so your kit shuld match the bolt hole pattern of the box you've sourced to use.
I also won't use the exchange 40 Splined Column with Shaft and as I'm just focusing on chassis prep at the moment, I won't have the 60 Steer Fabricated Shock Towers or Custom Battery Bracket until later in the project.
Hope this helps
