Layer 3 of silver paint on axle (l2 in pic). It's por15 silver over the por15 black. I'm torn now because I didn't think that I would like the black but now I realize that I liked the black too. I see everyone does black so wanted something different.
Black sure has been hard to paint over...I should have thought about this. It's not terrible but any light sections show easily.
They should accept suspension bushes like these when the springs are being fitted to your vehicle:
The above bushes are 25mm (1 inch) in outside diameter as I recall and I can't see them fitting in your springeyes because they appear to be already filled with some other sort of non-Toyota bush?
As for your paint, POR15 primer cures/sets to hard glossy finish and this surface is not easy for subsequent coats to stick to. So the best way to get a second coat to adhere properly is to apply it BEFORE the first coat has cured properly. If you've let the first coat cure, then you're supposed to apply POR15 tie-coat before applying the second coat (or I guess thorough sanding of the first coat might be an alternative to this).
I'm just saying this because if you allowed the black to cure and then later on applied the silver directly on top, "stone chipping" (when you drive on gravel roads) will likely produce lots of ugly black spots.
I had really good results with that por15 silver we did my fj75 chassis with it 5 years ago and its still 100% rock solid but everything I've done in por15 black has ended up not adhering as well and flaked or torn off in places
Lostmarbles thank you for the note about tiecoat. I may have issues later but at least i won't keep doing what I've been doing. I will have to slow down when I'm painting to have less paint slop.
I'm now tapping out all the threads to clear them of dirt, paint or whatever. This has been fun because I learned that my tap/die kit had nothing in the right size for my holes. So I went back to HF and picked up just the metric set to get a few of what I needed. There are of course more sizes that this new kit didn't include.
....Does anyone know of a link out there with a list for the sizes each nut/bolt is? I'd like to order the remaining taps and dies I don't have so I'm not waiting for more tools.
That's POR15 primer brushed on and then rattle-can gloss black sprayed over the top about 1 1/2 hours later..
(I always like to topcoat all my POR15 primers because the clear, silver and grey versions show you ...by significant discolouration ... that exposure to light has an effect on them over time..
I use a die grinder to clean out bore holes like that - 1/4" x 6" shaft with a 1" long slot cut in the end , use shop rolls of sanding cloth as a flap wheel of sorts . Great for polishing/fitting things....
