hmmm, have we identified another unreliable gauge here, or are these engines really that variable? I guess some of it might be oil and filter selection. One suggestion for FLcruizer is that the oil pressure is unusually high because 20w50 has exposed the fact you have some gunk in your motor partially blocking a few passages. maybe the higher viscosity oil flowed past the obstructions better. I would say that if the synth does not work, consider some auto-rx oil treatment (go to
www.bobistheoilguy.com) with the caveat that I have never tried the stuff only read about it.
i am surprised to hear of anyone running with oil pressure indicating just above the zero has mark. I would panic and park my truck if that happened. Similarly, I don't think the needle has ever gone beyond the 3rd hashmark on my truck. If it went to the 4th hashmark I would panic and park it. Not saying you guys should, just that it would be totally inconsistent with my truck's habits.
I have noticed a small but distinct uptick in pressure between my old 5w/30/10w/30 mobil 1 use and rotella 0W40 full synth that I recently switched to. It is most noticable at hot idle. I used to lag 2 or 3 needle points below the 2nd hashmark after about half an hour running time. Now it takes much longer to drop below the 2nd hashmark at idle and is only one needlepoint low.
the 0w40 rotella switch has reinstated intermittant minor startup rattle. Truck had it when i got it, but the 5w30 and 10w30 mobil 1 I used completely eliminated it for a long time. this seems exactly contrary to Tools R Us experience as far as heavier viscosity causing rattle not reducing it, but consistent as to brand, so maybe something in the mobil 1 formulation eliminated start up rattle? I always use the good small filter. Never heard a bad word said about it, and one of its chief virtues imho is eliminating start up rattle.
