Projector retrofit with mini H1!

Did you put them in the stock housing? If so did you sand the glass ridges?

I have had HIDs installed in my stock housings for over 6 months and I have not been flashed one time. I made sure I adjusted my beams down more than they were before, and I can actually see at night with my low beams on. I am extremely happy with the difference. It was worth it. YMMV.

My experience has been exactly like this guy's.

call me an a******

a******!!! :hillbilly:

I busted my LH headlight in a collision and decided to go with the DEPO's.

I wanted to go all the way to the projector HID route, but could not justify it financially at that time.

So, I ended up putting in some Philips H4's and 110w H1's.

I have been fairly happy with the light output and (sort of with) the pattern.

But I'd like to do the bi-xonon HID retrofit one of these days. That is where I want to get to ultimately.

You guys putting HID's in the stock housing did you go with the 55w ballasts or the 35w?

IMHO, I would go with the 4300k, 35w in the stock housing. I upgraded my car(has projectors) with the 55w, which is nice, but the 35w would have been enough.

4300k is going to give you the best usable light/brightness ratio. Any higher into the blue spectrum is more straining on the eyes even though it might appear brighter. If I did it again, I might go a little lower as I like light more on the yellow end of the spectrum, IMHO.

The Slee harness is nice and is a good idea if you want to go to HID. It's well made, and uses relays separate from the stock system. While HID's draw less while running, they require more when you first fire them up. Just upgrading the harness didn't really have a noticeable effect on my truck.

Great info thanks!

HIDs in stock headlights suck for other motorists, there's no cutoff.

I must be getting old... naw, I'm just grumpy.

Depos and HID

I went with the Slee harness first on my FZJ80 with oem lenses. Slee makes great products, but it did not help much. Then I added Toshiba HIR light bulbs to the Slee harnesses, little better, but still not great. Finally went with Depo Lenses and HID Projectors (Morimoto 35w). Wow, just like a flame thrower, but with a really excellent cutoff that doesn't even bother the :princess: while she is in the teeny weeny Prius. Strongly recommend you do it right so you are not blinding somebody's grandfather or other person with impaired vision, and the Morimoto 35 watts from TRS are topnotch. I am now doing the same upgrade to my 100 series. HTH

x3. HID's in JDM stock lens, zero issues with other motorists for a year now.
I do have issues with my old harness and a voltage drop across to the far (right hand side) light, but other than that pretty happy.
One of these days I'll do a proper retrofit, but it's way down on the priority list.

Not a :princess: nor grandfather but I do wear glasses and commute in Civic. Thanks for doing it right.

The problem is with having an LX there is no Depo light that fits correctly. And the low beams are seriously dangerous when you live out of town.

All you need is a LC grill. You can swap the emblem from the LX grill to the LC one even if you want to rebadge it.

Other than that, it fits perfectly.

yes,

many will tell you your an a hole for not having the projector in the stock housing blah blah blah, and your discourteous to other drivers blah blah, list goes on.

however, the lights are awesome and you can see at night.

Do it and be happy + see at night

More than discourteous, it's dangerous.

Imagine how great you'll be able to see the front of that Mack truck's grill as you blind him. :bang:

If you still want exceedingly bright lights, get some massive driving lights and tie them into your highbeam relay - that way they shut off when you turn your brights off.

Or get some assist (or fog) lights to aid with the mediocre lowbeam performance, at least.

Or spend a small amount of money and convert to the H1/H4 Depo setup (likely less cost than massive driving lights anyway).

A single ticket will cost far more than the conversion would. Running HID's in a non-HID housing is illegal is most states, and while your chances of getting pulled over from them are slim, a bored cop will usually pull over a vehicle for a lighting violation.

Agreed.... I run the Depo's (though not with HID) but it looks like a great solution for someone that wants HIDs.

My massive driving lights cost me $12.00 each, including the bulbs :hillbilly:

Interesting....very interesting. :hhmm:

Get them and let us know how they are!

Yeah I'm gonna, as well as the led rears.

Question is what bulb would work on the other side for high?
