...and I have a Cruiser problem.:grinpimp:

You don't have a problem yet. Wait until you tell your wife you will get down to four when you really know six might be the best you will do. The 100 series is the only land cruiser that she has ever like. She might even like it better than her V8 4WD 4Runner. Just owned mine over a year and doubt I will ever not own a 100 series. It is the best over all cruiser I have ever own and I owned them since 1974.

Hey...pinstriping is FREE and I'll even offer to help you for FREE :D .

Just let me know when you're ready to start ;p

Thats one mod I know how to do already. I'm sure we will get a chance to do that bit of customization soon.

That doesn't look like a Cruiser problem to me. Congrats! First mod: ARB up front!

I will be in Reno next month for the Cal4Wheel convention. Would love to get out on the trail while I am home. Samco Fabrication built a really nice 40 with coilovers, 39" IROKs, Walker Evans beadlocks, Atlas II, etc that I am going to shoot some photos of out at Moon Rocks too.

I think some of the BBCNN crew will be attending Cal4Wheel. Feb 16-18 right? I'm sure we can find a few people that are interested in a trail run. Is your truck still at Sams shop or will you need a ride?

Yeah I drooled over that 40 every time I was at Sams.

I was thinking more along the lines of OME lift and some 285's.

I'll need to get stuck a couple of times before the ARB will get past the finiance commitee:rolleyes:

It's not for just locking that makes the ARB front locker a good first buy candidate. The LC100 front diff is the weak link (both 2-pinion and 4-pinion have potential to 'explode')...you'll need to purchase a whole new differential (housing and third), as others can attest to here, if it fails...not to mention the hassle of trying to get it and you home when/if it happens.

Not a scare tactic but a preemptive strategy.

With my 2000 UZJ100, I exploded my front diff TWICE so I got a "To Go" card pass to bypass my financial committee!!

Sorry-I should have been more clear. Spresso has articulated what I was thinking, having been on the receiving end of one of those diff explosions with Snook (Jay). Get an arb not as much for the locker as for the better strength of the differential carrier.

So what exactly makes the stock diff so weak? What is the ring gear size on a 100? The one photo looks like the case is spreading and causing the stripping. Is there a tire size that it seems to happen with, ie. 35's or does it happen with 33's?

Really makes you feel good about your purchase heh Dan? I know how you feel, after I bought my 80, I started seeing all the things that could go wrong. :crybaby:

Christo or Darren could probably provide the most accurate explanation (FYI: there was a rash, including Christo's 4-pinion, of front r&p failures in Denver during and after the mass snowfall they had this winter). But the case is aluminum therefore imparting additional flex (IMO). This has happened mostly or exclusively with 33" (even stock!) or smaller to my knowledge. Post ARB I am not aware of any failures.

Truck is in Denver now getting paint and stand alone fuel management and the 4Runner is in Albuquerque so I will need a ride. Last time the convention was in Reno the Hills Angels sponsored a trail ride but I haven't heard anything this time around. We can coordinate as the time gets closer.

To stay on topic, could you retrofit an 80 front carrier to the 100? I believe that the ring and pinion are the same...

Good question.

Don't know...I am assuming the spider gears are different spline for the IFS CV shafts. Even if you could by the time you got done adding labor and parts you'd be damn close to the ARB anyway.

Good point spressomon, I imagine that labor on this job is as much as the parts themselves.

If you remove/reinstall the diff and just have someone install the ARB it's generally about $200. However you can easily add another $800 or so if you are going to have someone else remove/reinstall the diff. Plus more $$$ if you are going to have someone else set-up the compressor.

I assume you shopped around for you ARB, who has the best prices?

I bought mine from West Coast Diffs in Sacto...they had a good price...and are just down the street from Sean (River City Differentials) who did all my 3rd/diff work. I do not know who has the best price in Reno...
