Charlie,
Are you reading the handwriting on the wall? Better talk to Erik and see if he has part numbers.

Charlie,
I have your weekend assignment in order to get ready for next weekend.Take a can of liquid wrench, craw up under little red, soak the ubolts, shackle bolts if they're old, and the brake line connections so they will be easier to loosen.
Are you interested in doing a tech article for the newsletter? If so might you have a decent digital camera?

Oh, so you don't think we will need to grind the ubolts off? (saw Eric and Zane do that for Zane's lift). I'll start on the liquid wrench regimen. Thanks Gary for the NAPA numbers, they maybe helpful. I don't believe there will need to be any driveline mods from what I've read. I have a real good digital (5.2megapix) camara. Craig, you will need to give me directions - or an address so I can mapquest it as we get closer to Saturday. Do I need to bring a beer cooler? Micro brews are my preferred. Or do you want to play this safe? Although a reward afterward would be appropriate don't you think?

Charlie,
I drink nonalcohic beer, I keep plenty on hand, bring and drink anything you like, but you have to be straight to leave( or "big red" stays on the lift in the shop.) Having spare ubolts is a bonus if you ever brake one. We should be able to take them apart with the impact. I'm actually more concerned about the brake connections. We will play it safe but the doesn't me we can't drink a beer.

OK, the boss want to know if she'll be feeding anybody besides Charlie and I for lunch on Saturday. Speak now or be hungry forever.

PS Charlie, does 8:00 AM work for you?

9am would be better - it is Saturday after all. My brother won't be able to help, has some kind of retreat to go to. I have everything loaded in the trailer and am ready to go.

Wrenching report:
If it won't come out have Charlie do it, he'll break it out.
Make sure all tools are guaranteed for life. If Charlie can't break the bolt he can break the tool. If your missing a tool it's probably in Charlie's pocket. If the heater in the shop doesn't work, I'll bet Charlie broke that too!
We started out with the heater in the shop working, turned it off and then it wouldn't restart. But the temperature really was preety good all day without the heat.
Charlie and I worked about 6 hours on Charlie's little red yesterday. We changed out the shocks and suspension. We broke 1 tool using a 3' cheater and I think 2 other bolts. All which were easily removed afterward.
We did find a honky rigged spring perch which had been improperly repaired by a rookie in the past. If anybody has an old frame laying around Charlie will need to replace the rear perch of the front passenger side spring and the bolt the passes through the spring. The existing one was basically destroyed. We welded a temporary fix in place but it needs to be replaced. We really only ran into the one unexpected problem at the perch, the rest was pretty much what you expect when you change the suspension on a 30 year old Cruiser. Rusty bolts and rust in bushing holes.
Well Charlie, How did the drive and ride feel going home? Is it still a 5-6" lift?

Success! Thanks Craig for your expert help and your expert tools. Everything is operating properly. I will need to install shims (which I do have) as the truck now tends to wander when hitting a large bump. The ride otherwise even seems a bit smoother than the flat springs. Does anyone want stock springs before I toss them? I am very pleased with the results so far. Just as I had thought, the tie rod is now straight with the axle rather than going at an angle from pitman arm to knuckle (what happens when you put on a 2" dropped pitman arm before putting on a lift.

I'll go ahead and try to post an after photo and save some of the rest for possible use in our newsletter.
Thanks Again! It was great that two 50 year old men didn't have to crawl around on a cement floor to accomplish this.

Here is one - I will need to resize all pics in order to get them through.

Here is a before picture, and one of the adapter I broke of Craig's. Let me know if its not life time guaranteed, I still owe you big for all the help.

Does anyone know if TrailMaster are steel or aluminum? These were from SOR but can't find any indication on the package or in the catalog what they are made of. They are shiny like alum. but don't feel that lite?

Charlie the pics look pretty, Sounds like the springs were enineered about right and the shackles probably moved the caster angle. I didn't think to tell him to retorque but it sounds like we we'll be loosening the front at least! Did you have any drive shaft noise?
Get those brake hoses too!
