Excellent work, that narrows it down considerably! It would seem that it is running lean when transitioning from idle circuit to main circuit.

Possible culprits include:
restricted or too small primary slow jet,
restricted or too small primary main jet,
primary & secondary boosters mixed up....
Thanks, Jim.

I maybe should have mentioned that the truck had this severe hesitation when I bought it. That is the reason the carb was rebuilt.

I've been in communicate with the rebuilder in the past couple of weeks and he is willing to try again. I will make sure he hears your comments.

Before I put him to the trouble of tearing it down again, I wanted to make sure it WAS a problem with the carb before I had him do it again.

In that vein is there anything else I could check before I call him?

It's a problem in the carb.

If the carb was carefully cleaned & rebuilt exactly as it came apart, then it has the same problems it had before the rebuild.
Thanks, Jim. I'll call the rebuilder tomorrow and will let you know how things go.

Very cool FJ40Jim swooped in.

No idea if Jim is accepting new patients or not. Sending your problem child to him might be worth consideration. Here’s info off his website.

SUCCESS!

I was beginning to think it would never, ever run right. But it is smooth and sweet!

As Jim predicted, it was crossed up primary and secondary boosters. The rebuilder put them back in just the way he took them out. Causing the exact same problem I took it to him to straighten out.

Anyway it's fixed. I'm very grateful to Jim and the other guys who've helped me with this.

Thank you all.
