Got the 95 4 runner back together after doing a head gasket job, re man. heads, new injectors, timing belt, etc.
Long story short...Cranks, but wont start!

There's spark...

Any ideas...anything common that I could have forgotten?
Distributor?
No special attention was paid to the distributor location, but I had the timing marks on the cams, crank and belt dead on.

Thanks,

Keith

You didn't make sure that the distributor was properly indexed? It should be pointing at the #1 plug wire contact (under the cap) when the engine is at TDC.

That would be a BIG FAT OLE NEGATIVE!:o
That is exactly what it was. I also recruited the help of my dad. He thought that it was timing related. I pulled the front of the motor BACK apart just to be 100% sure that the cam (s) were lining up with the crank. Once that was determined, I pulled the distributor and sure enough...the cap was almost 180 deg. off. I got everything set with the distributor, put everything back together and she fired right up! Hit it with the timing light and all is RIGHT with the world!:bounce::bounce2:

I was thinking the WORST!
Im soooo glad it was relatively simple!

Nice ending to this story. I am always so apprehensive when I take on a large, time sensitive job. And of course, I usually get one simple thing wrong and it frustrates the hell out of me.

Good on you for tackling this, and congats on a completed job.

Now it's time to encourage you daughter to get a mechanic boyfiend. :D

Thanks gents.
I was pretty nervous when that thing wouldnt fire. For some reason, it DID NOT dawn on me when I put the distributor back in, there was anything special that needed to be done.
Toyota had actually made the distributor positioning really easy. I pull the thing out and start looking at it..."ah...that's how that goes."

It was a tough job for sure, but I did LEARN a friggin TON of extremely valuable information.

BTW...the thing runs GREAT! surprisingly, It ran pretty good before, but Im very pleased with how it turned out.

As for the daughter finding a mechanic boy friend...she is a LOSER MAGNET! NO CHANCE! I told her that she needs to get her sh!t together, finish school and get a JOB! That is the best I can hope for with that.

I don't see the problem.

Most mechanic kids are loosers. :D

NAW...were talking real loosers. A mechanic kid implies the kid has interest and at least motivation to do some kind of work.
The D!CK HEADS she hangs around with are the wanna be gang bangers. For some reason...she just embraced that lifestyle?:bang:
