I have a 1991 Land Cruiser.

I was on my way home from a short drive this afternoon, and just happen to look down at my gauges (I'm pretty vigilant about doing so) and my oil pressure gauge was reading very low. Fortunately I was only a couple hundred yards from my driveway. I pulled in, and turned the truck off. I popped the hood to see if I could figure out what was going on, and the engine on the passenger side close to the firewall was just dripping with oil. I checked the oil, and it was down significantly...so I topped the oil off with fresh oil, started it back up....and went immediately over to the passenger side, and there was oil pumping out of a small port on the head. I looked through the FSM, and couldn't find any information that would help me figure out what was going on. In fact, there's no mention of this small port, or what it's function is.

Anyway, I figured I'd ask the forum, in hopes that someone can tell me why this is happening.

I've included a couple of pics of the small port in question.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Oil galley plug from the looks of it

It’s a swedged plug that can blow out.

Passenger side 1/2 to 2/3 back from front of head? Drill and tap and insert an Allen head set screw with Loctite. Coat your tap with grease to catch the shavings. Change the oil and cross your fingers.

If it didn’t get too hot maybe disaster averted. Otherwise plan for a HG job

Edit: Added a thread with links to others.

You may be one of the very few lucky ones to catch this port blowout before significant damage was done. Follow the advice above and then change your oil. Send a sample to Blackstone to see if any damage was done.

Fixed!

Thanks for all of your help, especially the links to the threads of others who have had this same issue.

I followed the advice of "Texican", and used a 5/16 x 24 tap, then inserted an allen head plug. I also used red loctite.

The entire job only took about an hour.
