Hi All,
I tried to do a rear axle job, but there seems to be something in the axle housing that is blocking me from installing my new axle. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

That's a baffle piece that tries to keep as much oil as possible in the differential. You're gonna have to pull the diff to get that installed correctly.

Damn. Would you have any tips on doing this job? Or should i go ahead and contact a professional diff rebuilder?

You don't need to rebuild the diff, just unbolt it, pry it off the housing (it will be VERY HEAVY), then set it aside. You need to remove the other axle first, if it's not already. Reach in the housing and you'll find these baffles. It is part #5 in this diagram, there are 2 of them:

It looks like yours is bent. They are not very strong so you can probably just bend it back in shape, reinsert, then re-install the diff (part #6). You will need a new gasket (part #4), or you can just use RTV.

Does this make sense?
