hi guys , i know i am not of much help on this board but that is not a choice it is a lack of knowledge. I have just had new breaks and rotors put on my prado or as some would say play do but i love it.
The problem is that since i had taken it to a guy that was a great mechanic i did not realize that he would have children working on my pride and joy . It came back to me with six lug nuts ready to fall of as i noticed a couple days later , a terrible squeek on the back that i took back and had fixed, im not sure what that was. and four lug nut caps wrecked.(brakes and rotors thanks to prart numbers from this board) My most terribe problem of wich i know nothing about is i have no 4 WHEEL DRIVE AAAAAHHHHHHHHH I took it to toyota and the are not sure what the problem is . No manual of wich i will try to get from crusher if he will be so kind .But if anyone has any idea as to what the problem could be .......im pritty sure it has something to do with the front rotor replacement could you please let me know .....(i know this is a long one)..........i put diff lock on but when i am moveing and try to engage 4wheel it grinds like i am trying to put diff lock on while moving please help

youhave elec locking hubs that have VERY small magnets that need to be pinned back during reassembly.. i would say one or all 4 are broken off...

Well once upon a time he was great. Tell him to kick the kids off and fix it himself or pay someone else to do it.
Or send your sister over there to do your fighting for you:flipoff2:

This may help you to understand what you need to do.

thanks old blue. and rosco i guesse you do have a point .thanks.

He broke the vehicle. I would take it back too. Explain the problem, as described here.

He has to be accountable for his shotty repairs.

But Rosco/champjack.....stop the bickering at each other please. no rudeness in tech please. In Chat is ok thou :)

yes, he shoudl be accountable for shoddy repairs BUT i wouldn't trust him to get it right the next time either...

Yah I guess..... but it's hard to get a mechanic to pay for another mechanic to work on it.

Best case is to fix things yourself. Do research, buy the manuals and fix it.

Trusting mechanics to fix foreign vehicles that are not common for them isn't easy. Many times returns will happen.

thanks guys , i am trying to get manuals and have made an appointment to take it back and have it looked at.Ihave no idea were to get, or what type of magnets to get. i would like to take them with me so that i have the parts for less down time I am quite sure this is (fingers crossed) the problem. When i called him today he said mmmmmm thats no good and mmmmm magnets.

and sorry for the arguing lol.

i got your email about the manuals, i am just making sure they cover most of the things you will need them for...

Change it to a manual turning hub - will make your life easier. Chances are they really messed up the contacts and you are out of luck on an easy fix.

Oh, and dont take it back to them, but get your money back, and if they broke anything have them pay for the repairs. I'm with Roscoe on this one, don't take s*** laying down, stand up for yourself.

although i have had no issues with the elec hubs IF they are damaged then i agree with Ishobie, switch to the manual, perfect time to do it...

i realy do appreciate all the advice but in the end i have no idea what that takes .....as you can prob tell by now this is my very first four wheel drive......i wish i would have done it my self. lol cry cry.lol

i am not sure but i think someone posted up a thread dealing with swapping of elec to manual hubs.

I am swapping out a front end for a guy here, he did the conversion to manual hubs - i think the package cost about 7-900 to buy in japan, I could see if he wants to sell it. But I am sure it will still be expensive - but cheaper than fixing the electric ones ( I think they are 700 a side from toyota).

thanks guys i am going to waite untill i get some kind of manual and give mr garage man another shot . im not sure. I just don't seem to have the confedence to look at it my self but that is what i should have done in the first place, at least i would have been the one to wreck it and have no one else to blame .

Look at it this way... it's already broken. How much damage could you do?

You need to find some other cruiserheads in your area and have em over for some beer and tear into it.

Not sure where you are, but there is clubs all over the place.

I think to own a cruiser(old one at that) you need to be a little self sufficient on wrenching. Or it will cost you a fortune. In that case your better off just selling it and getting a new 4runner.
