^ Bobby Longs work just as well. And no you don't need 42's you need 44's :-D
Have we met?

Yep, CMCC 2006 before I moved out to the dust bowl called Kansas. If I ever need 44s it'll be time for a different rig because making them fit an 80 isn't worth the effort.

I think he is DDing his rig, so i would vote no to bobbies right now. JMHO

Bingo! A guy can buy a few OEM spares off MUD and be dollars ahead and not have to worry about them lasting only 20k miles.

Enough of the hi-jack, now back to your regularly scheduled Dusty show.

Dude! your a freak! Lets build it! Seen some of those on 31" swampers. Weld the axles together and run it like a pre-runner!

here is what you need dusty! A friend of mine is a golf cart distributor for Tomberlin and works in Texas. Was down visiting and we went to one of his dealers. They had this bad boy parked out back..... i guess a lot of things are still bigger in Texas.

Sorry, took these pics with my Iphone and i don't know how to turn them now....

^ Yeah I saw that. It's all fun and games till someone gets hurt. Safety first guys.

Only when I get frusterated at not making something I know I should make... But hey, at least I haven't been on my lid yet! :flipoff2:

Ahh, yes the "lid" factor. If it wasn't for that I might still be in the 80 section reading threads on "Can I run 35's on a 2" lift, best MPG ever, and how to remove scratches from mall cruising." lol

hammers

great place. first visit yesterday. my dad in law (Bob) just baught a pristine 04 tj rubicon and had a new superlift long arm put on just last week. this was his maiden voyage. he did great

we played a little on the first parts of jack and sledge hammers. they are no picnic. Bobs rubi has only 35" BFG ats and damage looked certain so we considered turning back and looking for an easier option....

i got bound up on this piece and bob pulled me out with his smitty built winch. 8000lb pull was easy

after Bob pulled me up we decided we would would need to head back down off the sledgehammer trail which we had only found by chance driving aimlessly through the smeltering desert. This trail was was tough and there was only the two of us and Bobs jeep was just too sexy to smash up...yet.

so now we didn't know what we would do as we had come up here all alone and there was almost nobody here save a handfull of motorcycles/ ATV's-and this place is so huge-the motorcycles were dots in the distance and it was getting very hot. we had a cheap OHV map we foung at the grocery store on the way up but couldn't figure it out. the 2 "hammer" trails are the only trails marked.

just then in our moment of misery a few hardcore 40's on tons with v8's and lomaxes showed up. they had seen us going up to the hammers from some distance away and decided to follow. They came over the ridge suddenly and I was taken a little offguard. we were at leaste 10 miles off the mainroad and there were no people in sight for miles. As they crested the ridge and started yelling in thick spanish accents I briefly entertained the worst considered how much faster I could run than my father in law. Knowing i would likely be dead before nightfall anyway....But those thought were just silly as these latinos meant know harm and were some cool cats. they were hardcore wheelers from hollywood who came to the hammers monthly. they knew these trails like their back yards. this last pic is of there rigs as they pulled up and started yelling towards us.

They ate up my 80 and wanted to know all about it. they informed us that the trail we were on was only getting worse and the rubicon would get trashed if we continued onward. they had come all the way up here to warn us

Great guys. The mild language barrier was easily overcome with tech. There were 4 40's in the group. 3 were the same with leafs, v8's , d60/70's with no hubs and lomax 205's. the 4th was the same save he had yota axles still. after some truck chat they offered to escourt us to a different trail that might be passable without dammage for a clean rubicon with long arms and 35's. they were almost right....

Wow cool story and killer pics.

I think I saw you crossing the grapevine about 9pm Friday night. Not sure why you would be way over there if you went to the Hammers though??? Great story. Email me your cell number and I'll lead you guys around the Hammers once it cools a little more.

Ha Ha Disneyland.. I think it would be more fun to ride in your rig than any overpriced roller coaster.

so these wheelin latinos take us to some trail called the "claw" and it was hard too. Bobs jeep didn't have a scratch on it before this trip. the powdercoated long arm kit was still glowing when we set out. his 35" bfgs were still virginal-those little rubber whiskers all over them. within 20 minutes on the claw he had scratched up all the steel on the underside of his jeep and the left axle side front sway bar mount was torn clean off. here is a pic of his front drive shaft supporting the jeep. both pinion yokes are now well scarred.

the cool latinos took turns riding in my lexus. it has ac:) and climate control. the wood accents help give it that civilized feel

our new crew progressed slowly up the canyon. we would slow every now and again to help out the jeep which was doing amazingly well for how little driving Bob has done. Bob would laugh off the repeated hits to his pristine TJ and take pics to document the damage-never loosing his cool. My father-in-law is fearless. this was his first time driving his jeep on anything of dificulty. The TJ is so light and nimble compared to my big pig. once Bob has it mastered i fear i and my 80 will be the limiting factor.

The lead 40 stoped me repeatedly to emphasize safe wheeling. "put on your seatbelt" and "stay in the car" was yelled repeatedly back at me. Later while sitting under a rock and watching the jeep winch, our new found leader told me how last year they had all witnessed a jeeper sever off several fingers when his jeep rolled while his hand was gripping the outer rollcage. Half the story was in spanish so I didn't get all the details. He offered me another beer. I told him i already had 3 full cans in the cruiser and i still didn't drink. He had another before sinching up his 3 point harness....
