I have been repacing various seals and gaskets throughout engine and transmission. (77' fj55)When I start to tighten gasket around oil pan it either slips in or out from around the edge of the pan. I don't know why its doing this and I can't figure out how to get it to stay in place.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advace

The search engine will turn up a few tips. It really helps to take some small string and tie the gasket to the cleaned oil pan. Once installed, you can cut and pull out the strings. RTV on just the front and rear helps with the sealing too.

yeah, same as above. any number of gasket sticky stuff works real well. i use indian head brand shellack, i only apply it to the side i want the gasket to stick to (oil pan) so that when its time to replace years later i just take the part to the wire wheel.
