But what do I know....

I hate to agree with B on anything, but in this case I agree with he knows nothing :flipoff2: LOL. Seriously, I'll agree with his price, but since I get called a lowballer, I'll add an extra $50 :flipoff2:

semlin,

i know where you're coming from, but i'm seriously not worried about the ring job. i know this truck. the lexus dealer owner's wife drove the truck and it got serviced when necessary. it has not been abused in any way - and i have the service records backing it up. ignoring the ring job, what does everybody think this truck is worth?

Can't ignore it, which means not worth much. I wouldn't buy it. OK maybe I would for ~$7-8k. Just factor in the cost to replace or rebuild the engine, plus the time/hassle factor. If it doesn't need it pretty soon you lucked out.
Read some stories about some "dealer" maintenance and repairs and you will know what I mean.

Here's my opinion on your original question......(I'm sure there'll be mucho variation in opinions)
If it has lockers, if the ring job isn't an issue for you and it's in otherwise good shape, I'd say $12k to $14k would be a reasonable range.
Just to give you a reference point ---- Although mine's a LC instead of a LX, I paid $12k last year for a 1994/f&r lockers/90k miles/all service records/one owner/and the truck was from Georgia. (Out of the rust belt was a plus for me). I've observed just the opposite of what you'd expect......the Lexus tend to go for less than the Toyota LC. Guess folks think a used Lexus would be something more expensive to maintain?

I'm no expert but!

I kind of went through this same thing $$$$ wise. There are so many grey areas with a LC. Do you want to mud it, then a LX probably isn't for you. Do you want to just street it, then a LC isn't a necessity for you either.

How about this, just go to cars.com and autotrader.com scroll through 200 to 300 LCs over a few months that you're interested in. This will give you a good indication of what you'll get for what price, at about the 300th LC you'll see nothing in the LC world is free or even fair, then pick one that you want and offer 90% of what they ask.

I'll throw you a bone on this one, I wouldn't touch that Lexus with a 10 foot pole, it doesn't fit my needs, but it's you're money.

I've only ever bought "well seasoned" (except for my BMW) used cars for the last 25 years or so and have a few rules that must be followed.

1. Condition is all important.
2. Don't hesatate to walk away from a good deal if there are ANY questions about condition.
3. If the condition is OK, then the differences in price is usually not that important.

Problems arise when the emotions from getting a neat toy effect your judgment. This is very normal, but must be avoided. In this case, wouldn't it be nicer to have a LC that hasn't been wrenched on? These cars are not like fords or chev's where complete new engines are available at a reasonable cost.

All just my opinions.
