My 2000 HZJ78 is likely on its original leafs and coils, shocks replaced but a long time ago. I am looking for a reasonable upgrade as I need to replace all bushes and other steering components regardless.
Loaded for a trip, with two passengers, water, fuel, the weight comes out:
3040 lb front axle
3940 lb rear axle
Total weight 6980 lb. This weight will only fluctuate as to water (~20-30L), fuel (180L) and food, as the vehicle is an adventure rig and not a daily driver.
I would be looking to keep the lift to an absolute minimum, as I need to fit into my garage still and I have about 1.5 in to spare at present. At the moment, the eyebrow heights are approximately 50 cm front and back. The rear leafs have a little bit of arch at present, and have six leaves.
I think the options easily compilable/attainable are essentially Terrain Tamer and Dobinsons IMS.
Dobinsons has springs which are listed as a smaller lift: Dobinsons 4×4 0″-2″ IMS Suspension Kit for Landcruiser 78 Series – FZJ78, HZJ78, VDJ78 V8 Diesel 2008-On (Square Headlights) - Dobinsons Spring & Suspension USA - https://dobinsonusa.com/product/dobinsons-4x4-0-2-ims-suspension-kit-for-landcruiser-78-series-fzj78-hzj78-09-1999-to-04-2007-fzj78-hzj78-vdj78-v8-diesel-04-2007-on/
Terrain Tamer is just listed as a 50mm lift all around.
Or maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I should just replace shocks and not springs?
I've reached out to both companies in any case and will report back, will be interesting as a summary.
