I installed a new throttle cable over the weekend.

While testing it with the engine running I’m hearing a whistle/whoosh (milder version of a turbo blow off valve) kind of noise if you give it some gas and let off the accelerator pedal. Seems to go away at higher RPMs. In the video you can hear it at the second (higher) rev.

It’s a 94, bone stock. Rebuilt head, new HG several thousand miles ago by previous owner. I drove it back home over 2,000 miles and it doesn’t skip a beat. Just curious what this noise is.

I do want to note it has Gates drive belts that are in need of replacement, they squeal bad on startup first couple seconds. I have new Toyota belts that I will install once I change the front main seal and oil pump seal next few weeks.

This noise seems to most definitely come from the front top of the engine, where the PAIR Reed valve is.

Any ideas?

I heard a belt squeal. I head the noise of your fan. Hmm.

Have you tried using a stethoscope to target the noise? Do all the PAIR system components have good rubber?

I’m not sure, I never inspected the PAIR unit. Is there a write up how to take it all apart and check the rubber?

What you heard is a belt squeal.

Change your belts and make sure they are tight enough.
