So i was driving a while back and my 4by started to clank and every were i drove in 4wheel was like a roller coaster clanking up hills etc, and when i made sharp turns it would make violent clanking noises and you could feel the truck lunge forward stop then go again in a pattern. SO i was camping and i went to rip out a stump driving up a hill and the 4by stopped working and is making ugly noises from the front differential is it a crown gear? what should i do? buy new gears? Sas it? were can i get a good deal on a solid axle,/ swap kit ? thanks!

OK, just checkin ;)

first isolate the trouble area. check out your CV axles. when the hub is unlocked, do they turn easy? does the hub engauge well?

if the axles are jacked they may not spin smooth. but it could also be the ring and pinion. rive with one and then the other hub locked. see if this points to the problem. finally, drain the fluid from the diff, and look for critters.

you can take off the front cover of the diff to see if its jacked.

Ya, it's either a blown CV shaft, or you munched the gears in the diff.

You can probably get either parts for cheap from someone locally doing a SAS, but IMO the IFS setup is not worth spending a nickel on. Do yourself a favor and start looking for a front axle now. Search, here and the web, there are tons of SAS kits out there to choose from.

edit: oh crap, read your sig, looks like you paid to have 4.88's installed in that diff. That's not gonna be cheap to replace, if that's the problem. Do the SAS now!
