So I'm trying to decide on my next rig. I have been thinking about a FJ40, FZJ80, Range Rover, or a CJ7/8. Does anyone have a 80 series I could look at and drive with around Shawnee? I have never been in one. If I go with a 80 or a Range Rover it would be a wheeler/adventure rig. A 40/CJ7 more trail rig, 39s V8 etc. I would like to take my family with me so I'm kinda leaning toward a Range rover or a 80. I could also drive them to the trail and back home or out west.
thanks, Mike

I think I am just up the street from you. I will shoot you a pm.

I would say the 80 series would be the best bang for the buck, the most dependable. Driving one is a great experience.. super solid feeling and ride/drive great. I have never owned one though, just driven a few stock ones a couple modified. good luck!

Get this for $6900: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/ctd/3271425123.html

Go talk to Steve here to do stuff like sliders, or Jeff next door at SK on mechanical stuff:

Talk to the guys on here about lifting. Make sure you get the right coils if you decided to do that.

Did I mention "go 'Cats!!" ?? :)

Mine 80 is being delivered with in the hour....

96 locked and stock for now build to follow. officially come back to the dark side. 91 4x4 truck was my first vehicle and then had a CJ for 12 years

I have been reading for 6+ months and even looked at a few old range and land rovers. i believe the 80's have more potential at least for my plans with the diesel. stronger axles from the factory and locker option.

What size of tires do you want to run?

plan is 1" body lift 2.5" lift and 35-36 as narrow as I can find tires. It might start with 34 or so if i can find a set used. you can come drive it if you like. I will be driving it this winter while I get the lift and bumpers set up and so I can build a tranny for the diesel and have it closer to ready for the swap. 230k and needs at least one birf in the front end. I think I got a decent deal unless there is more axle work than I think.

I like it, but looks like it would be a trailer queen. I am really liking my 80. really starting to make it mine. but i get my open air fix pretty much every day. i put over 7k on my bike without leaving town last year. I can understand the topless want. my wife hates it. i can open the sunroof and windows all the way back to the rear and get good air flow not like hanging my leg out the door opening but safer for sure

I was kinda thinking it would be trailer only. If I change to some radial 37s, arb the front then maybe I could drive it a bit. I have 3 rigs I'm eyeing right now and they are all out west. A YJ, that FJ60, and a XJ.
I really need to decide what I want, something that I could drive and trailer or
trailer only.
