Hi, I'm new here and want to buy my first Pig. I don't know how to begin.

I don't know to start with one of the ads I'm seeing for 2-3K or go for one with work done for 6K. I have only found about 5 across the web and not sure about details.

I don't need "stock" as I need A/C and a few other updated features so the that isn't a concern.

I need a safe, dependable daily driver vehicle that I can afford and if I need to fix things up I can do so little by little as I have the funds.

My first wishes would be the safe and dependable part and then I could fix cosmetic items.

Can you help and point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

John

Hey John, good to see you here. I think that the folks on this board can help you learn a lot.

I can tell you that if I wanted what you want, I'd look for a later model (76 and up) pig that was running. Because you want to drive it right away, the cost might be a little more than one that you can piece together, but it sounds like that would be worth it for you.

Maybe if you post up some of the rigs you are considering folks would give you some feedback on them?

Where are you located? That alone will help a lot of folks jog their memories on rigs in your general area.

AR Pig

There was one posted on craigslist that is/ was in R-ville. Not sure what shape it's in or if it sold. You will see one pop on from time to time around here. From the pictures, the one in LA looks pretty good for the price. Best of luck in finding one!

Beware of rust. You may want to look places that are not prone to rust, i.e., near the ocean or very humid environments. Being left in snow drifts till spring can also cause some rust. You will most likely have to do some rust repair, no matter where it comes from, but you want that to be minimal.
Finding a stocker may be hard. I know you say you want to do some mods, but finding one w/ minimal mods to start w/ is best. If you have several in mind, you should consider things like; condition of weatherstripping, mods to suspension, etc. The rubber is hard to get and expensive. It may be possible to find a pig mostly stock, needing some work. In my opinion, this is a better starting point than one w/ heavy mods and "upgrades". The fixer upper stocker could be alot less to get into than one w/ a fuel injected v-8, painted over rust and a chopped up frame. It's also closer to where you'd like to be w/ your rig. Of course, when it's time to "upgrade", then the upgrades were up to you and your needs/preferences.

Thanks Pablo

That is a nice one and guy is very nice also. The only problem is it is from AUS and the steringwheel is on the right hand side with the gear shift on the left.

Thanks again

Request pics of the following areas: The drip rails, The underside near the rockers, inside of firewalls, underside at the back corners, floor boards. If you are shopping long distance you might end up with a lipstick pig. Easy to make a rust bucket look pretty from the outside. But hard to hide rust in the areas mentioned.

That is a deal breaker? I always thought that would be cool to have a RHD Piggy...

I'll keep my eyes open.

The right hand drive ones are cool as s***, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had the room, money, and time!

Hope 'ya find a goodun :hillbilly: If you get one w/o A/C, I have a unit I won't be needing, FYI. There have been some popping up on fleabay with :smokin: prices lately. I couldn't believe some of the low buy it now prices for partial restos, drivetrain swapped & even stockers were going for :pig:

This is all I have, the under dash unit & controller. I thought I had more  It'd prolly be better if you found a :pig: w/ all A/C components already installed :meh:
