Hey everyone,

New member here. I currently have a 2006 Toyota 4Runner that I use for off-roading and recently picked up a 2006 Lexus LX470 with 218k miles. Always wanted a 100-series and finally found one.

So far I’ve already done:

  • Timing belt + water pump
  • Brake fluid flush
  • New radiator
  • Front wheel bearing
  • New tires
  • AHC fluid flush
  • Oil change
Next on my list:

  • Front/rear differential fluids
  • Transfer case fluid
  • Power steering fluid
  • Transmission service
For the diffs, would you recommend:

  • simple drain and refill, or
  • opening the pumpkins, fully cleaning them, re-gasketing, and refilling with AMSOIL?
Also debating whether I should:

  • drop the transmission pan,
  • clean/replace the filter/strainer,
  • and do a full fluid service.
Looking forward to learning from everyone here and getting this LX470 dialed in for long-term reliability and some off-road trips.

eyy congrats, where's the pictures??

As for what services to do, do you know anything about previous service history?

I think hit post too soon while it was still uploading pictures, there is some history of regular oil changes from 2012 to date but some how no history for first 6 years.

Looks super well kept.

If there's no major service history I would assume nothing has been done and start with the basics
  • Front and rear diff service
  • Transfer case fluid
  • Spark plugs
  • Fuel filter (easy and cheap)
  • Coolant flush

Inspections:
-Inspect tie rods and steering rack for play
-Inspect heater Ts for cracking
-Check brake pad depth and grooving in rotors
-Inspect these bushings for rot/cracking:
  • Front and rear upper control arms
  • Front and rear lower control arms
  • Front and rear sway bar links
  • Front and rear shock bushings
-Air filter
-Inspect front diff for leaking coming from seals
-Clean moonroof drains
-Inspect rear of transfer case to see if leaking
-Inspect transmission pan for leaking
-Check color of trans fluid
-Inspect upper and lower ball joints
-Check to make sure all bulbs are working
-Inspect radiator for damage
-Inspect underbody/frame of vehicle for penetrating rust
-Inspect brake lines for leaks

I'm an Amsoil guy too... Did my rear and transfer before Jamboree. They have bags too, to make life easy. Wasn't smart to look for a service kit, so I ordered my washer from Toyota.

Thank you so much for the info. Once I take care of all fluids and inspections I need to find a way to connect aux cable to the system.
