i've been keeping up with the progress and noticed only one person said anything about the shackle being perpendicular to the frame. i always believed that the shackle was to be at a 45 deg angle from the frame. am i mistaken or was that kind of tap danced around?

any more discussion about this topic?

You got it! Anyone have any advice on shackles?

if it was me, Id fab my own, or better yet, have someone draw and upload a template of theirs... its nothing more than 3 bolts and some steel...

so this price doesnt include Shackles? if it doesnt then were back to square one. Greasable pins and shackles are another $200 that brings the total to just a hundred bucks or so shy of OME. Sorry theres absolutely no reason to go with Hell creek over OME to save $100. I can get the whole OME set up afor around $1350 and since ARB is within driving distance..... I knew it was too good to be true

afaik thats no shackles... sometimes I envy the j**p's just cause their kits dont cost 12 million dollars... 1400 shipped is a lot a dough!

Seriously re the relative cost of jeep parts. Ugh. The cost of mods quickly eclipses the cost of the rig, at least in my case. Good thing I love my 62 so much, but still.

Looks like I'll be biting the bullet with OME in the next month or two. Any cruiserheads in Seattle keen to lend me your driveway for a Saturday? I'm bringing the beer, and you could use an excuse to spend another day talking all things cruiser!

who runs Hell creek on their 40? I did a search and didnt see much positive feedback from the 40 guys.

Glad I stumbled on this...

I run the Hell Creek 4" lift on my 40. If you do a search on 77TLCFJ40 and Hell Creek, you will find lots of positive feedback. I have seen very little feedback that was not positive so I really don't understand the above statement???

There is a fine balance between shackle angle and spring rate. With a 45* angle, the springs need to be stiffer to support the truck. With an angle closer to vertical, the springs can be softer. Someone should ask Tom to explain this. I am running 1.5" longer shackles which negatively effects my angle, but gives me less fender rubbing with 35 x 12.50s and all the flex I can handle.

Good luck everybody

I'd keep a positive outlook on what Tom is doing...everything points to the fact he will get it/make it right. I'm willing to give an independent guy the business in hopes that he keeps creating great products at good prices for our trucks. Here's the other deal...you don't have to spend any money on shackles. Tom says you can run your stock shackles if you choose. You'd only have to get bushings for under $2 a piece if yours are in as bad of shape as mine and figure out the sway bar extensions if you want to keep them. I'm going to get new shackles b/c I was already budgeting the OME kit price and I'm still coming in under what that kit would cost plus shipping. I see the point and I've been going over all the scenarios, but I feel so much better supporting Tom...especially when he'll give you his cell # if you have any questions.

BradFly85,
Thanks for taking the first step.
Please take pics & document how everything goes. (Shackles, match, quality, etc.)
I am going to wait until mid April to buy my lift kit (Hell Creek or OME).

You got it! I plan on taking a ton of pictures and I'll be relaying any info/questions/concerns to Tom.

Ok, since Tom is now selling, I will post up some more pics. I am Tom's guinea pig on the 2.5. Here is the story:

1. Tom picked me for some unknown reason.
2. They were sent in early December and I installed them during an Upstate Cruiser HAMOM. Taking the stock springs out was hard, new spring install was easy.
3. Installed rough country shocks last month before first offroad trip to Cullowhee. I made it to the top without being winched (unlike a few others that night, including an FJC and a Piggie). I attribute some of this to the Hellcreek Springs, and much more to the fellow UC members sitting in the back, drinking beer, and screaming "floor it."
4. The ride is just great now, and the truck still seems level.
5. As far as the shackle being perpendicular, that is what Tom is shooting for and pretty much what we got
6. As far as reusing stock shackles and pins, if you can get them off without a grinder, you're a better man than me . . .

Here are a few pictures from Cullowee . . .

And some more . . .

Turkeypen, can you post some pics of the truck on level ground? What size tires are those?

And a rear compression . . .

They are 31s. I know I need larger, but they are very new. Level shots:

cool, thanks. The front looks a little higher than the rear, do you have another one more from the side? how much mass was added to achieve the full compression?

It's pretty much level when you measure from the indentation line in the side panels front and back. In fact, the front is just slightly lower. Remember, that front wheel well is taller than the rear, throwing the perspective off.

The left rear wheel was compressed with the front right wheel about 1.5 feet off the ground.

Here is a shot on a forest service road near my house.

Bradfly85 what size tires are you running. I am considering the 2.5 and am trying to get some info. Also did you put the heavy springs on?

Did the rear spring swap over the Easter holiday. Tom wanted to see what shortened springs looked like. Well, too short. He's going back over the original drawings. I put the originals back on and the shackle angle looks really good, but he thinks he can get better.

I'm running 31X10.5X15 right now, but noticed yesterday that the left rear in the first picture barely rubbed the wheel well. I'll probably go more narrow and a little taller on my next set. As far as I know Tom doesn't offer a heavy spring.
