Has anyone removed the hose through the firewall? Do i need to get at it from inside? I'm going to paint the firewall and would like to remove this. Amazing shape for as old as it is but I might replace them also. This is on my 88.

It is not thru the firewall, there is a metal pipe thru the firewall. It is just a short 2"-3" piece of hose. It comes off, just be careful about it.

Just wrap it in yellow painters tape and paint over it. There is the rubber dual through grommet
to think about. You don’t want to paint that either.

If you decide to remove and replace these short heater hoses be careful with removal because they are attached to brass piping for the heater core and can be damaged if you're too rough with the hose removal. Replacing or repairing the heater core pipes requires a full dash removal and best to be avoided.

I might add to my response above, I was replacing all my 38 year old rubber hoses, so I very carefully used a razor to cut the hoses free without scoring the metal pipes.
