Can someone tell me (1) how much trouble it is to put a new heater core in a 85 pickup 22re? Oh and (2) how do u do it???

The shop up here at shady mechanic world said 500 bucks, so I said no way I'm doing it myself. I did it at -25 degrees and I would never ever ever ever ever ever ever do that again. It was such a pain in the arse. I have an 83. There is just not a lot of room down there to work and your standing sort of, upside down in a back injury sort of position the whole time. I did not enjoy it one bit and would pay if I had to do it again. But don't let me discourage you. I'm sure the next post will say it was super easy and they don't know what dizzidave is talking about.:grinpimp:

You basically have to take apart much of your dash, and disconnect various things that are hard to get to. Make sure you have all sorts of funky screwdrivers that bend. Hopefully your girlfriend has small hands so she can help. Good luck.

Make sure you try back flushing the core first. Much easier.

Thanks Dave. I have heard those same things about the job. I do almost all of my own work on all of my yotas but I know this one is gonna be a beatch!!!!!

You should just sell the truck. Really, it's that bad.

Or, pull the engine, sawzall a hole in the firewall, and pull it out that way.

I have parted out several trucks of this vintage, and every time I get it down to the heater, I wonder WTF they were thinking...

Good luck.

If you throw wrenches and discuss the ancestry of toyota engineers very often then maybe this project is over your frustration threshold. If you are cool like Fonzie then it will only seem time consuming. Pull the seats out and get comfortable, because you are gonna be in there for a while.
