So I was poking around Ebay one day and came across some seats from a 2021 Grand Wagoneer with the air bags removed. With 2 fans, one underneath and one in the back blowing ambient air, and 2 separate heater coils for the back and seat, and and impossible setup for lumbar support and back message. They were like new and cost $900 for the set. I figured I could figure it all out, somehow. Well, there were 2 major headaches in the whole ordeal. First was that it was all too tall. The only solution was to remove the front steel support spot welded to the body to allow for a lower mounting. The other migraine came from the fans not working with anything I tried, including asking held from friends who are better with electrons than me. I even got diagrams from the original Jeep, but concluded that too much was controlled by the computers for me to figure out. I wrote off the messaging feature, and concentrated on ordering in radial fans and making housings so that the cooling would work. The seat movement controls including the extension for the legs worked easily. The heating was straight forward, but I learned that having a simple 6v conversion worked the best for a low level of warmth that didn't make me feel on fire. There was some welding involved to make the mounts, but nothing very complicated. I ordered the carling switch mount from cruiserhead.com. The whole project took me about a week full time, so I can't say it was easy or cheap. I will say that I enjoyed the challenge and would recommend the upgrade to those handy enough to give it a go themselves. The cooling function is very nice, especially when wearing shorts and in the desert here in Southern California. The fact that the seats say Overland is a big bonus considering how much more most products cost when they have that label!
