Save yourself the headaches and bypass the factory amp.....ask me how I know. Any good modern head unit has better amp than that pile of 1990 tech. Your center woofer won't work but it doesn't do much anyways, just add a slim powered sub that are a million times better.

Just use the bypass harness and extend it with 20 inches of 18 gauge wires. You'll thank me later.

To bypass the amp you only need 708112 .You will need to add wire between this and the connection that came with your radio, I believe about 16 inches worth for each wire in the harness. I left the amp inline cause I'm pretty much deaf anyways so I don't need supper sound. like qball said the amp in your new head unit has a bigger amp then what came from the factory.

To make it simpler the amp is in the passenger lowe dash, easily accessible after you take out the glove box. That's where the harness connect to, just chuck the little amp.

Then take your stereo amp and connect the wires from the stereo amp to the metra harness with 20 inch wires. I like longer wires so it's easy to connect the stereo with ample room. I would tape all the wires together.

Plug in the metes harness and the wires routes behind the glove box and into the back of console area.

Connect your stereo and you are done. Very simple, can be done in an hour or so.

I tried the other harness use factory amp and it sucked!!!!!!

When I google the part # above, Metra 70-8112, it states it's for KEEPING the factory amp, not deleting it. I want to install a DD head unit w/Nav. I want to bypass the stock amp & sub then throw them in the trash. I've read I need a Scoshe adapter & also read I need the Metra 70-8112.
Can I get confirmation on which harness?
As far as splicing the Metra harness, do I cut the Metra harness & splice it or do I splice the factory harness to get the extra 20" needed? Thanks!

Anybody? Needing the proper Metra or Scoshe part # to delete/bypass stock amp & sub in LX450. Thanks.

ETA: The above number is incorrect! Correct part # is Metra 70-1761.

I bypassed the factory amp on my son's 97 LX with the standard '87 up Toyota Harness adapter. We purchased this one: TOYOTA CAR STEREO CD PLAYER WIRING HARNESS WIRE ADAPTER FOR A AFTERMARKET RADIO

Cut it in half and extended each wire 18" which was plenty to snake thru to the connections. We actually bought both types of adapters to compare the OEM amp vs the one in our Pioneer AVH-X3700 and the Pioneer amp was much cleaner and powered the Polk db651 speakers discernibly better. Well worth the extra effort. Also, we removed the sub from the system and actually installed the LC console to gain another cupholder and switch locations.
