Hello gents,

Looking for parts to rebuild the injection pump on my 1990 HDJ80.

Any help sourcing said parts will be greatly appreciated!

Carlos

Carlos-
An injection pump is not like a carb, you cannot build it on your kitchen table. Diesel Injection shops overhaul them in a clean room and have easy access to all the denso parts for the pump. Price shopping is your main job. I would ask about Redding Fuel Injection- they have in the past been very reasonable.

Any Denso shop can get the parts. Like the place that bench tested and diagnosed your pump?

Have you looked at the FSM? Hope you're a retired machinist.... in which case, my hat's off to you sir.

I'm having a good friend and diesel specialist do the job. Thank you for your input.

I'm having a rebuilt pump shipped from Canada. Should be here next week.
Thank you guys for your comments and assistance.

@clanlino , how did the rebuilt injection pump from Canada work out for you? Who did you go through for the rebuilt injection pump? We are in the same situation for a 91 HDJ81...our injection pump is leaking and needs to be replaced.

Thanks @mudandrock ...can you tell me about how much it's costing for your HDJ81 injection pump (rebuild?), including shipping? I see that you're in the U.S. as well...I'm in Texas, so there'd be some shipping to Canada. Just wondering how much. And what is the typical turnaround time...5-7 days, weeks? Thanks!!

Probably best you give him a ring and ask those questions. If you give him your Denso part number on the pump body, he can get your seals ordered ahead of time if not on the shelf. He’s quick once you get it there. I suggest you only use fedex and make it clear on your customs paperwork that its going out for repair and returning to the US, so you don’t have to pay duty. Have someone knowledgeable pull your pump off and take note where the timing marks are. Make sure all your gears are at TDC and marks lined up etc. wrap up your injection line fittings with plastic once disconnected. I’m probably preaching to the choir, but timing and fuel is kind of a big deal. This is a perfect time to change out your timing components since the T-belt has to come off anyway.

Very, very helpful @mudandrock, thanks!!! I didn't realize the removal of the injection pump was so involved; and that it involved the timing belt, etc. Unfortunately our timing belt was just replaced about 30,000 kms ago when we bought the truck from Land Cruiser's Direct from @SteveJackson ! I'll try and get in touch with John at Okanagan Diesel (Vernon, BC)...thanks for the advice! I'm guessing you probably evaluated the state-side options and chose to go to Okanagan Diesel in Canada due to their familiarity with these pumps?

He’s been working on these pumps for over a decade and he’s a mud member, if there’s someone in the USA that can show me that resume, I’ll use them. In the meantime, a few extra bucks in shipping is peace of mind for me. Good luck and make it a fun project!

@mudandrock , how'd your IP rebuild go? Did you notice a difference in fuel consumption at all?

FYI, I decided to get an exchange IP through Cruiser Addiction and will have the IPs swapped out at some point in March. Trying to decide if I want to return my old IP for a core charge, or try to sell it directly.
