New bearings for sure if you didn't get the preload right.
Gents, the bearing pre-load was set at 6, but today I found out that they were loose and sloppy. Don't know what happened. This was done by my mechanic who knows LCs. I'm going to get him to retighten the hub nuts.

This is a classic, perhaps your mechanic does know Land Cruisers, but did he do the job?

If he did then he should be ashamed of his lacklustre attention to detail!

Haha he is a Jeep guy 🙈 but loves Land Cruisers equally.
I know he did the work himself.

Will tightening the hub nuts, and re-measuring the pre-load take care of this?

Thanks!

Now I did not know he was a 'Jeep guy' did I? But certainly knew he was not at his best when he did your vehicle.

But regardless of his vehicle preference, as a mechanic he should know how to properly install and pre load a set of wheel bearings.

Given the poor workmanship I would have everything checked out by someone else, sorry if that sounds harsh but I am a mechanic (50+ years), with my own business, I do not specialise in any particular marque, but whatever I work on I do it properly.

Exactly
For the most part, wheel bearings are wheel bearings

Agree. I had a chat with him today about the wheel bearings not being pre-loaded correctly. I trust him, so I lrt him check the Adjusting and Tightening huts and report back to me.

Like you said, he may have not been at his best so, I'll give another, last try.
