I need to buy some new back pads for my 1990 Hdj81, according to that ToyoDYI site, the part number is 04492-60010, for a 'kit', at $97.
Has anyone bought some rear pads recently and can confirm that number?

I bought new rear pads from Napa a couple weeks ago. Around $65 for the set. I'll look up the part numbers when I get home from work and post them up this evening. IIRC I have the Toyota # and the Napa #.

Cheers, Jason

Groovy, thanks Jason.

I should have put this in that sticky under part numbers I guess. Which by the way leads me to question the part number referenced there for the front pads, as that same DIY site lists the number as 04491-60170 (again for a "kit", whatever that means).

Jeff,

The Toyota PN I got from my EPC (for June '91 HDJ) was 04491-60020. The "kit", at least in this (old) version of EPC has been superceeded by the "pads only" part number listed 04465-60020.

The rear number I got was 04466-60020 (also pads only).

My EPC is a couple of years old, so they might have different numbers though. :hillbilly:

HTH's!

Mot :)

04466-60020 is correct.

Jeff,

The Napa number is AEC7487. They were 71.67 taxes in, and they had them at the store later the same day. Fit fine, but I haven't had them in long enough to comment on quality. So far so good I suppose.

Hope this helps

Just picked up my new pads (the green ones) from the local dealership, $86.67 list, $69.34 with club discount, $77.66 taxes in total.

Any special tricks to installing them, or just the usual pop the caliper and drop them in? My rotors apparently are fine, and I will get them turned the next brake change.

Pop the caliper, squeeze the piston back (suck out excess fluid from the resevoir), drop in new pads, and you're off to the races! Nothing fancy here.

Pads installed, and just in time by the look of some them! I miss having a shop, it's so much fun working in the dark, outside, with a 4 year old holding a flashlight for you :)
Something of note, as I looked at the spanky new Toyota pads, they were labeled as 'sumitomo', with the TEQ symbol below them.
When I was pricing pads out a few days ago, I had phoned Burnaby Auto Parts, and they had quoted me on various brands ranging from 39$ to 96$. Interestingly enough, one brand they quoted at 48$ was Sumitomo.

Ha ha I know the felling last night I had to adjust my wheel bearings in the rain. I had to use step ladder with a sheet of plywood off resting on the hood and the top of the ladder. I didn't have my son to help so I wore a headlamp. Bearings are good now

Are these the HDJ81 front pads? And what club are you a part of cause I just love discounts. Especially when I was quoted 98.65$ for the front pads from Toyota of Duncan. Thanks in advance.

This is for rear pads as per 1st post.

Rears. The Coastal Cruisers have set up accounts with various lower mainland Toyota dealerships. I havven't bought anything myself in a long time, actually probably not since I bought these pads, but it was a pretty painless process. Just walked up to the parts counter and asked to set up a cash account. Having bought two vehicles from that dealership might have made that process a little easier, so YMMV....
