If you don't tell them...I am curious how the heck they would know if your wood/bananas/apples/whatever...came from out of state?![]()
I don't think you're getting it... .
.Do you dump used motor oil in your backyard? I hope not
How would you feel if your neighbor did it in your yard, and ruined your water well?
Most gypsy moth propogation has occured by humans transporting their eggs to other areas. Don't contribute to the problem, help with the solution.
If you look up you will see the point passing over head at 40,000'.Oh..."I get it" just fine.
I "get it" that we are increasingly burdened with rules, laws, ordinances, regulations, permits, etc....to the point that it borders on the absurd. It's firewood for God's sake. 90% of anything in it is going to be burned up. IF the other 10% results in a localized problem area (highly unlikely according to current information) then the Forest Dept can simply erradiacate/supress that pest in that area.
Or, we can set up roadblocks and routinely stop vehicles to check them for items brought in from out of state. I mean...you never know when a Fire Ant, Cockroach, Gypsy Moth, Fruit Fly or some other horrid creature is hiding in some item. We're doomed for sure! I'm sure folks won't mind the inconvenience or intrustion, after all...its for the common good and Nirvana.
.
You have nothing to fear.
Like anyone else, I would not be happy about the trespass.
I would also suggest that you have one "piss poor" water well if it is subject to contamination by a few quarts of used oil poured on the surface.
BTW, you might want to check and see if your front or rear main seals are leaking. We don't want any 5 legged frogs or 3 headed turtles running around in a couple of years, now do we?
Here is the current spread of the "dreaded" gypsy moth over the last 100 years, and some "projected" movement. For Pete's sake... find something else to worry about.
Gypsy Moth in North America
You might consider trading in your Land Cruiser for a bicycle while you're at it, you are contaminating our air. We all know that contaminated air contributes to a reduction of the ozone layer which creates "global warming". We know this because the highly esteemed "Al Gore" tells us so.
So.......are you going to get that bicycle and "help with the solution", or you are going to drive your leaky/polluting LC and "contribute to the problem"?
Go hug your tree now, everything is going to be alright.![]()

The adelgid is believed to have come to the United States from Japan by an unknown mechanism and route. It appeared first in the Pacific Northwest, where it adopted the Western hemlock as a host. As was the case in Japan, where the adelgid's host is the spruce tree, the Western hemlock proved resistant to the insects, and they did not proliferate. Seeking a Natural Enemy Such is not the case with the Eastern hemlock. Nor is there any known natural enemy that might control the adelgid.
Yup, I was right. You don't get it. <sigh>
FYI... I'm not a eco-nazi tree hugger. I know we all contribute to the pollution problem. I've taken your side of this argument many times.
And read my sig... I don't have any more LCs. I got tired of the damned thing leaking all over my driveway (despite replacing every single seal) and sucking too much gas. My 21-YO mini-truck gets a respectable 20mpg, and doesn't leak a drop.
Have a nice day!

I want some of what he had.In other words, you have no good rebuttal!
For untold thousands of years...the flora and fauna has been changing. It is the way of the world.
Some species die out, others replace them, that is "natural". Man...trying to manipulate and control everything that happens to suit himself is the "un-natural" part.
I remain unconvinced that the movement of certain insects around the U.S. (or anywhere else) is going to cause the serious doom and gloom that tree hugging, Sierra Club, Evironmentalists predict.
Sorry, but I vote for letting the man take his own firewood where ever the hell he wants to without being impositioned, you'd think he was hauling around nuclear waste. Do the same authorities that would confiscate his firewood make certain that he doesn't leave the state with any of theirs?
To employ this preventitave "logic" further...shouldn't his vehicle and all possesions be inspected (and perhaps sprayed) just in case something is in there?
There is a good chance the family dog has a flea or two on him, God only knows what kind of effect that could have on things. I mean...if we let this go unchecked, we will soon have flea epidemic.
People will suddenly be washing their dogs in masse, the soap and chemicals they use will end up in our drinking water (I'm sure of it), probably in our streams and rivers too.
Smaller dogs might be washed in a tub or sink. The hair from the animals will no doubt clog some of the drains, causing the homeowner to go and buy some drain cleaner..then we have MORE chemicals in our water (oh no).![]()
Or maybe the homeowner elects to call a plumber. But, the plumber now swamped with calls from frantic pet owners with clogged drains can not find time to get to them all during regular business hours. So, he has to work on weekends and put in overtime, naturally his prices go up (emergency service) and no one wants that.
So, I guess when we look at that way, you might be right.
How on earth did this ecosystem manage to survive before all these "feel good" regulations?
