Has your diesel MPG gone up recently?

No worries Nick, just a little misunderstanding. I'm hoping that if Ciaran can't find anything right away, that the guages may help. The other possibility is that perhaps it's just the poor conditions I drive in that are producing these numbers. Lots of stop and go, and not really all that much real highway, because there are mountains everywhere. The Coquihalla is probably not the best highway to get true highway fuel economy on, either. I was talking to Sheldon today and he also said that the longer you spend on the highway, the better the mileage seems to get. Maybe I just haven't put enough km on the unit yet. I dunno.

Update: I'm going to ATEB now because of timing with Ciaran, though I still would like him to look at my truck. Strangely enough, since this post and all my whining about fuel consumption, I've noticed lately that it's now up about 10% or so, and seems to be climbing. I can't explain it other than that all the suggestions to "work your engine" etc. seem to be having an effect. I'm not complaining though. Currently I appear to be at about 8.3 km per litre. And I think it's still improving, which is a nice surprise.

Martin:

You also have an automatic tranny - you should expect 10 to 20% lower fuel economy than a 5 speed - especially if you don't keep it locked up in fourth for the duration of the test..

I'm using Stanadyne performance plus and just go with the recommendations on the bottle. It adds about 4 cents per litre to the cost of your fuel but I think it's worth it. I'm buying it by the case from BD Diesel in Abbotsford.

Oh yeah, strangely, after all my concerns about fuel consumption, my fuel economy is now going up. About 10% from where I was before, and no other changes to the truck. It looks like all that talk about running it for a while under our driving conditions is true.

Is there anywhere else that carries Stanadyne other than Abbortsford? Any local lordcos?

I'm using Howes Meaner Power Kleaner atm which was given to be by ATEB when I bought the truck from them. So I dunno how it compares to Stanadyne.

Stanadyne Fuel Additive

Lantec
I got Stanadyne One Shot Performance Formula additive back in January from NorthWest Fuel Injection Service in Surrey. http://www.nwfuel.ca/
I did not meet the gentleman that I purchased from as I had it picked up for me, but he was very helpful/knowledgeable by email (gord@nwfuel.ca) Also price was very good as I recall by the case.

Cheers,
Gord
