Has anyone successfully programmed TPMS IDs on 2015+ using MiniVCI

Alright - good news.

Tonight I got my VXDiag VCX Nano from Amazon and set it up. Installation was pretty painless, shows up as another VCI option in Techstream once you install the drivers.

What I noticed right away was communication with the vehicle was faster - way faster. even than the 2.0.x miniVCI cable.

Went to load up my new TPMS sensor IDs and it loaded them quickly and painlessly.

Viewed sensor data and the new IDs are loaded in.

I was only messing with it for a bit after that and I only got one tire to display pressure via Techstream, but I am not too worried I will did the "air the tire down rapidly and air it back up to activate the sensor" and it did display on the data stream in Techstream.

Probably going to drive my Viper to work tomorrow, its supposed to be decent weather here in Wisconsin. Hope to get some miles on the LC this weekend and confirm if the TPMS all read properly.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Would you mind letting us know which Techstream version you used? I'm looking into installing TPMS myself too

Just want to confirm that like @ArnieC, I was also able to program TPMS on my 2016 LC using the VXDIAG tool, where it would not with a few different mini vci/ Xhorse clones. Gave them away to my FIL with my old 32 bit laptop that was used just for techstream. The last two times I went to Discount tire, the techs couldn't program the sensors correctly, telling me one or more sensor was dead, but Carista would work fine. I finally just decided to get a more permanent solution.

I upgraded the firmware, and going into the TPMS monitor it did crash/close techstream a couple times. (version 13.x.x that I already had on my laptop, did not try the V14.x.x that came with VXDIAG yet). I loaded the TPMS screen using the dual data screen function and it came up fine. Programmed quick and easy. I was using a 64 bit Windows 10 machine.

I was going to try it on my wife's new 2020 4Runner, but didn't have to. Through the odometer/dash screen, you can select an option to learn new sensors. No need to input sensor numbers, just hit the button to learn new sensors, drive between 10 minutes and an hour with the new tires/sensors and it automatically finds all the sensors and lets you know where they are located on the car. A pretty cool feature. If this is the new thing going forward, I probably didn't need to get the VXDIAG, but it is nice to have a working tool.

I also got a VCXMini recently mainly because my old MiniVCI wouldn’t show live data in Techstream and I’m hunting down an AC flapper door issue. Turns out it could handle TPMS as well.

Well worth the $80.

I did use the techstream 14 that came with it.. note that where my old techstream came with a key gen, the new application didn’t. But it did come with a “toyota launcher” that you run before running techstream, and that puts 3 days on the license every time you run it making having a key unnecessary.

My virus scanner (Windows Defender) said the "Toyota Launcher" had a trojan virus. Did you have any issues? It may be a false positive however. I am going to use a burner laptop that is dedicated to garage duty, but I am hesitant to intentionally load anything that has a virus.

No issues yet but this is a burner too. Only used for car diagnostics. Don’t even have the WiFi enabled most of the time.

Which one did you get? I had the one linked earlier saved in my Amazon list for a spring purchase, but now it is "Currently unavailable".

VXDiag VCX Nano.. and looking back at my amazon orders it is now listed as currently unavailable. Maybe I got the last one?

Yup that's the one. Hmmm... reviews are not that great, especially the guy that "bricked my ECU". Will probably just go the Calista way.

Easy to set up and easy to use. I'd ignore the negative review. I've used the old mini vci dozens of times and the VXdiag has been even better. Keep a fully charged laptop and you should be good.

For TPMS, Carista is easy. Just need a phone, but the ongoing subscription sucks. And it doesn't work for TPMS on all rigs (4Runner, for example, is not supported).

I won't be trying to flash the ECU of a vehicle this expensive with anything less than official toyota hardware.

Might consider doing a clean OS install and run the older version of techstream I was running.. but it wouldn't work with the new interface when I plugged it in. Might be a driver issue.. but as I said with this being a burner laptop I'm not too concerned.

Another vote for VXDIAG VCX Nano. Thanks ArnieC! Got it working on my VirtualBox Win 7 32 bit Techstream version v.15.00.026. VXDIAG was pretty much plug and play. Next project is to add a key fob; only have one atm. Will provide another update when fob arrives in the mail.
