Has anyone ever put a RTT on one of these?

Yakima says it'll carry up to 350lbs so I was wondering if anyone else got the idea before...?

It would seem to cut down on wind resistance from a tent on the roof. But I don't know what kind of fuel mileage loss the trailer and tent would induce.

Thoughts?

Nice trailer, but it think most people like RTTs because they can be perched a little higher off the ground. I wonder how such a small trailer would track behind our larger rigs.
 
That trailer costs way more than a tent. How much fuel would you have to save to justify the trailer.

Aren't the tires rated for 200mph?????
 
It would be fine. Light weight, your truck wouldn't even know it was there. My concern is the RTT
wouldn't do well as it would now be under considerable abuse from road debris and stuff from
your tires. You would be advised to mount a deflector shield in front like you would to protect a
boat. Maybe along the bottom too. But it would be fun, light, and you can always sell the trailer later
if it doesn't work out.
A trailer that light would have negligible mileage effect I would think.
 
$2300 for that trailer, for real? I guess there are suckers born everyday. If you had a car and really needed it, it could be justified.

Harbor freight has a pretty mean 4x8 trailer that might be a good option if you aren't going to beat the snot out of it. $279 right now.
 
The Hobie dealer down in Panama City florida probably sells quite a few of these to customers buying their Hobie kayaks. Might be able to find a used one on Craigslist or something.

I think one of the big draws to them is they are lightweight and they can be folded up in some way and stored on the wall while not in use.
 
unless I see an endurance test with it loaded, from one end of Canyonlands to the other, I'm going to go with the impression that this trailer was not designed for rugged use
I think it was designed to get bikes to trail heads and kayaks to the river.
 
As a RTT owner and user, the only advantage I could see or think of - is that you could park it in a camping spot, disconnect, set up tent and have your rig to use as you please. But, the rest is negative and would not work for my purposes. To each their own, though :idea: Keep the ideas comin'!

As a pop-up tent trailer owner I can say there are a lot of times when knowing you have a place reserved come night time is an advantage. We generally move every day but there are times when we stay in an area for a few days. usually someplace like Bodega Bay or Fort Bragg. The down side to a trailer is you are limited in where you can go, more so with the pop-up than say an adventure trailer of Mil trailer. This was painfully clear when we tried to go over Steel pass in Death Valley.

I have been trying to find the version of the trailer in the OP that has a flip over rack for bikes or kayaks. Pretty slick design; RTT on the bottom and bikes etc on top. Get to camp, flip open the rack and open the RTT.

I really like the versatility of the xventure trailer with the adjustable rack. Because you can lift the rack, you have awning capability. I bet you could even rig up an AC for a RTT if you happened to stay somewhere with power. Entry price is a little steep, but looks like an awesome trailer. I might rip off the idea if I get into backcountry camping.

I'm happy if my popup arrives in one piece and pops after a on-road trek. I can't imagine it would last long off-road, even with a lift and tires.

I just lifted mine (bigger wheel, tires, flipped axle) and installed some of our Pocket Style Fender Flares on it. Once it dries out here in the Pacific Northwest, I'll put my RTT back on.
